I haven't tried ZM70 yet, but have tried both ZM67 & ZM62; with BG 80 at 25lbs as my regular setup on my Panda T1s. Comparing ZMG 67 to BG80 at the same tension, the BG80 feels quite a bit livelier, although power-wise they are pretty much on par. I reckon the ZM67 will need to be strung 1 or 2lbs higher to match the feel of BG80; so I guess the same would apply to the ZM70, perhaps more so since it's a thicker string. ZM62's feel and power is top notch, just that I haven't managed an hour with them yet before they go ping!
This is an ideal example of why everyone is different and prefers different things. Quite a few people say Panda hits hardest when he uses ZM70. Panda gets an extremely loud, deep, "BOOM!" with ZM70. But then again Panda is not a smasher, he's a dinker so he prefers ZM62.
yes. ZM62 still my favorite along with ZM67. now that i have so many of it and that i do my own stringing, i don't mind breaking strings more often as the cost is really rather low. $5 a pop every couple of month is quite affordable.
after reading so much post on zymax strings i decided to string my only one souvenir racket from misbun sidek at 24-26lbs with zm62 and it broke after i played only 3 times, maybe after 20 sets. but the feel is a little better than bg 66 and i think because of its thinner gauge. still prefer bg 65 at 26-28lbs. would be even better if i dare 28-30lbs.
i am afraid to say that the ZM70 is the second string i will be cutting this week. some client gave me a racket with fresh BG65 that he didn't want. and now this ZM70... bad karma.
well everyone knows that i am a weakling as i have been using my ARC w/ZM62@24lbs on and off for nearly a month and they still look fresh...
kwun, when you play with it i am sure you notice the string swaying left and right when you chop or even worst when you slice! i find it very irritating actually, trying to align them as i play! i think this string is just too fine for me but anyway its an easy string, anybody can just get used to it within minutes! and sure beats a hell lot of other strings in the market for the thin string...
string moving: a bit. but it settled down after a few days. this is the same for most strings. now i am gonna try it out on a cab22. ultra power racket with super power string. this is gonna be fun.
kwun, your cab 22 is it the original shape and length, i mean older model, i haven't been following yonex models lately. if that is the case at 24lb would be tighter than the newer frame models. also if i still remember, cab 22 is a stiff racket and probably good for a thinner gauge strings.
yes. it is oval shaped and thus has a smaller frame so the effective stiffness will be higher. i ended up stringing it at 22.5lbs to compensate for the smaller frame and also Dink's suggestion on lower tension. (i didn't go as far as 2-3lbs though) just finished it, actually. the thin gauge made it pretty fast. i think i did it in 40mins without rushing it, which is pretty decent time for me... will report on how it plays when i get to use it next week!
you might have played with it a little longer if it was strung at 20lbs being a conventional frame for your cab 22 and i think that was the recommended max. pulling tension the mishit probably at top of the frame nothing much we can do if we like the thin gauge accept to lower the pulling tension!
I think I am going to try ZM70, for my doubles racket, currently I am using 28lbs, for doubles, should I go to 30lbs ? Also what is the best colour for performance ?
ZyMax 62 Normally I play with Yonex BG66 or Ashaway PowerGut66. I'm nearing the end of my supply of both so I thought I'd give ZyMax 62 a go before I order my next load of string. I'm not a fan of the new trend of hard feeling Yonex strings (BG75Ti is the worst string ever made) and have always liked the softer feel of Ashaway strings. Yesterday I strung an Arc10 with ZyMax 62 @ 24/26lb - 1lb less than my usual for PG66/BG66 given its thinness. This has to be the one of the easiest strings to string a racket with - smooth, thin and firm Although the smallness of the knots gives me some concerns... Trained with it this morning and gave it the full workout. Felt as the shuttle was really popping off the strings nicely on drives, touch felt good on pushes and net shots and overall control was good. During my smashing routine (strings regularly perish during this and the occasional racket) and managed to wind up to full power with it and surprisingly the strings managed to hold, although I did not have any full-power mis-hits Strings felt good, the sweet-spot was a good size and power was excellent. Lets see how long they last. As I string my own rackets, durability is not my biggest concern, I may just string up more for tournaments
You might be in a a slight quandary as ZM62 is very stiff, BG66 = medium, PG66 = soft. Perhaps it's not the stiffness of the string but just the overall "feel". If you like a medium to softer feeling, you should try MicroPower, that may become your favorite string.
If you are into softer strings, try zm67 instead. IMHO it has all the popness of zm62 but slightly softer but without as much feel.
And they broke hitting a clear warming up next time I played. I think I will try 67mains and 62cross, as recommended by Alan.
tried a zm67 at 26.5lbs on my zelm pp9990. the initial hit feels soft but overall it's good string for the price. i just wish it was little rougher like the bg80.
I think I am going to try ZM70, for my doubles racket, currently I am using 28lbs, for doubles, should I go to 30lbs ? Also what is the best colour for performance ? Anyone ?
