Hi we currently use the RSL silver feather shuttle here in Johannesburg South Africa, but we are more then 2000m above sea level. This causes major problems with the speed of the shuttle. We currently bend the feather tips back to slow them down. Does any one have any other recogmendations.

according to RSL website, silver has a speed range of 73-81. try going 1-3 down from what speed you are using
If you cannot find any RSL birds that are slow enough, maybe you should change to Yonex shuttles, Aerosensa-XX. XX being the speed factor that, if I understand, range from 10 to 50, 50 being the fastest. In Canada, we play with Aerosensa 20, but we are known for always using shuttle sthat are too slow, so 10 should work just fine in altitude, I guess.
Hmm, I don't believe that the numbers on the Aerosensa models have anything to do with the speed. I think the higher the number, the higher the quality. I believe Yonex rates speeds from 1-5, but I'm not too sure what to use in your situation, and which end of the numbers indicates the fastest speed.
...Funny, because at my local store, aerosensa 10 shuttle box says "speed 1", aerosensa 20 says "speed 2" and the list goes on. If what you say is true, and I could believe it is, then it means that 1 is the slowest and 5 the fastest.

Yonex Aerosensa are definitely ranked by quality not speed where 10 being lowest and 50 being highest. The colour on the cap indicates the speed. ie green, blue and red

You should try shuttles rated 76 speed (for higher altitudes). www.giadinhsports.com carries that,along with speeds 77 (for most locals) and 78 (for cold climates). If they do not list it, send them an email.
Yonex numbers its AeroSensa shuttles on quality grades. AS-10 is the lowest grade and AS-50 is the highest grade (international tournament grade). The single digit AeroSensa shuttles are the equivalent practice versions. AS-1 is the practice version for AS-10, AS-2 is the practice version for AS-20, AS-3 for AS-30... and so on. (That also explains why AS-5 is nearly as expensive as AS-50) As phandrew pointed out, the speeds are denoted by the colour of the tube-cap. Yonex offers only three speeds - Green (Slow), Blue (Medium) & Red (Fast). Although no altitude rating is indicated, you could choose one based on the prevailing local weather since these speeds are designed based on the ambient temperature. Green (Slow) is used for warmer areas (22-32 C), Blue (Medium) for temperate areas (12-23 C) and Red (Fast) for colder areas (0-13 C). However, what this means to someone playing in the Atacama or Death Valley or the Sahara or Kathmandu or Thimphu or Reykjavik is beyond me
Sorry for the late reply, 73 is the slowest speed i know for a shuttlecock. If we can't find any shuttlecock speed lower than 73 then you can try cutting out some of the cork from the middle to reduce the weight even more. ie drill a hole.
