True, not all great players make great coaches, I agree with you. Ultimately,it's the players themselves that count. What a great coach does is to help you realize your true potential. IMHO. I still believe Chen Long will go far, let the future tell. Bao Chunlai was quite an impressive player, and a very likaeble character, but, somehow,I felt he lacked the killer instinct and willpower, more to do with his good-natured personality. I tend to think Chen Long is more talented and mercurial. Du PY has reached his potential, unlikely to go further than what he has shown while Wang ZM is too laid-back,no sense of urgency and intensity in his play most of the time. Hope to see a new youngster emerge sometime soon, from the rest of the world as well, as Lin Dan and Lee CW will be retiring soon.
Bcl was exceptional in physical ability, technique and speed, but was mentally weak and was predictable. You are answering your own defense.....CL is hardworking and focussed...just not exceptionally talented.
Taufik won what at 16? He won OG at 23, his official age lah. Oops, forgot abt CHen Yu already Yup, I like Tian HW too
Didn't he,relatively speaking, winning 3 SS titles back-to-back, all at LCW's expense? I wouldn't split hairs on the age factor, 20 or 22/23, some people's progress are not that smooth, some are late bloomers, eg Sho Sasaki,Lee Hyun-Il, Tine Baun,Wang Xin, Zhang Ning.
Don't think I can stay up until 3am for CJ vs TH match. It's 1am 18th March here. Good night/morning.
Me.too.it's already past 1 here, have to call an 'early' night, the last two fagged me out. Hoped to see Taufik and Mitani in the finals.
Dont you know Lee Hyunil was meant to be the star player for South Korea between 2003 to 2005? He somehow didnt live up to his expectations and have been faring poorly in most tournaments. The most memorable achievement he ever made was upsetting China in the Sudirman Cup final by defeating Chen Hong to earn Korea a crucial point to victory
