So many seeded shuttlers have tumbled yesterday, will the upset continue today?

Last year WS defending champion and runner-up are sent packing at first round, the faves in this category such as Saina Nehwal, Tine Baun, have chance to win AE title or maybe we'll see new face in Sunday's final.

Today's second round will be started on 10.00am local time, using 3 courts.

Linda has produced impressive breakthrough yesterday to stun Wang Yihan, one of CHN best bet to win AE. Hopefully she'll maintain good performance and consistency in next rounds ;)

Okay!! So once the dust has settled and all the bodies have been dragged off, what are we left with?

WS has been the biggest disaster zone. Count the bodies: LXR and WYH headline the list and to a lesser extent, Minatsu Mitani disappointed by bowing to lovely Bella! The field is now wide open for a non-China WS title match, and a non-China winner. The only real contenders from China are JYJ and WSX, but they will clash tomorrow in R16. Hmmmm, now, let’s see, who has the better record against Saina Nehwal? ;)

In fact, the way the draw has played out, there is a very good chance not a single place in the Semis may be occupied by a China player!

Meanwhile Ratchanok, Juliane, Tine, Sindhu, Porntip, SJH, Eriko and many others advance. Right now, everyone can dream!

    Predictions involving INA players:

    MS R16
Chou Tien Chen vs Tommy Sugiarto - WR28 vs WR24. I hope Tommy can prevail.

Jan O Jorgensen vs Sony Dwi Kuncoro [4] - WR10 vs WR4. Yet another tough match for Sony. He's expected to win.

    WS R16
    Lindaweni Fanetri
vs Porntip Buranaprasertsuk - Linda should take advantage of her victory yesterday to notch yet another win today!

Belaetrix Manuputty vs Saina Nehwal [2] - Bella has done well so far in reaching R16. She will rise up to the top 40 by next week.

    MD R16
    Mohd Ulinnuha/Ricky Karanda Suwardi
vs Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari/Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif - Ulin/Ricky received an unexpected WO from Fu/Cai. They should make good use of this chance to progress to the QF over the ex MAS no 2 pair.

Mohd Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan [8] vs Lee Sheng Mu/Tsai Chia Hsin - a tricky tie for Ahsan/Hendra. But I think they can fulfill their seeding.

    WD R16
    Satoko Suetsuna/Miyuki Maeda
[6] vs Nitya Krishinda Maheswari/Anneke Feinya Agustine - not sure how this one will end up. Japanese pairs tend to beat INA pairs in the past few years.

Anggia Shitta Awanda/Greysia Polii vs Ma Jin/Tang Jinhua [5] - no doubt about this, the CHN pair to advance.

Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth/Rizki Amelia Pradipta vs Lee So Hee/Shin Seung Chan - this will be a tough one, but I hope Pia/Rizki can progress.

    XD R16
    Mohd Rijal/Debby Susanto
[7] vs Jorrit De Ruiter/Samantha Barning - anything less than a win will be considered a failure!

Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying [3] vs Fran Kurniawan/Shendy Puspa Irawati - a tight contest is expected. Fran/Shendy prevailed in their last encounter in rubber-set. The MAS pair still has a slight edge.

Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei [5] vs Praveen Jordan/Vita Marissa - another valuable learning experience for young Jordan (20 yo). A rubber-set will already be a surprising result today.

Shin Baek Cheol/Jang Ye Na vs Markis Kido/Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth - after the morale-boosting victory yesterday, Kido/Pia should aim for the QF now. But it will be quite hard against the recently crowned German Open champion.

Kim Ki Jung/Jung Kyung Eun vs Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir [2] - with major obstacle Fischer-Nielsen/Pedersen already beaten, the road is open for Towi/Butet to reach another AE Final.

While I agree that on paper the biggest contenders from China should be WSX or JYJ, we could have a dark horse in Han Li. Although not quite tested on the biggest of stages, she seems to have a cool demeanor. But is her ability high enough to win? Out of the three mentioned China players, at least she was the one who sailed with ease into the 2nd round, defeating Yip Pui Yin in only 33 min 21-12 21-9.

As if the situation wasn't bad enough already for China WS, WSX and JYJ have to face each other today in 2nd round, depleting their hopes for victory even more.
