China no need to say, sure have a string of juniors waiting in line, other countries face the problem of finding good MS. Of late, CWF, TCS, Liew Daren's performances have been better than Arif. And Arif is getting more chances than those his age, he's already in elit back-up MS at 20. Arif gets to go the same tourneys as the other 3 mentioned. Some who're senior to him like Chan Kwon Beng, Lim Fang Yang are still in back up.
So why is BAM rushing Arif for when there are more mature MS like ckb and lfy being deprived of competitive exposure? It's not as if MAS is short of talent.BAM may endanger Arif's development if they push him to excel.Certainly there's a big competitive gap between junior and senior level tournaments. If Arif continues to lose,BAM should give him a break and send him to lesser tournaments or risk having his confidence destroyed. It takes a long time to recover from lost confidence;sometimes the recovered specimen may lose its shine altogether.
1) Performance wise Arif did better than either CKB, LFY, et al in his junior days. He was runner up in AJC/WJC (I forgot which one), lost to Chen Long. In 2007, CHan Kwon Beng was touted as 2nd best back up MS after TCS. After that, dunno why, CKB has stagnanted, CWF, Daren has overtaken him. CKB still trains under Misbun, which means he can take Misbun's tough physical training prog. 2) The 2nd reason on many ppl's minds is a sensitive issue. You're a smart 'swift', should have no problem figuring it out . Anyway, we're digressing, since this thread's abt Hafiz & KBH. You can refer to limsy's thread on "elit back & back-up 2009" for further discussion.
I know where are you heading to. Rumour - I hope it wasn't true. Btw, i don't think arif is in the top list in Rashid's mind now. It's Chun Seang. So, explain the special privileges part.
Read my post & pjswift earlier post. It's Arif over CKB, LFY, etc issue. Now of course Arif not on top of list. Before that. Other than that, media slant (esp malay press), NSC official's comments, etc, etc, etc. Except perhaps Misbun who early on already saw that Arif was still raw & inexperienced for senior level.
CKB has not been performing well due to over training. However he is catching up. Getting better already now.
Dont forget there is another player -- Yeoh Kay Bin He is former runner-up in WJC, I think the best achievement for MAS MS @ WJC. Anyway, he has quit BAM last year.
I saw the same issues arose before. It's still unclear for me, so my judgement is merely a state of an opinion. Arif was seen as one potential player before. Perhaps, it's a perhaps, that he's going to be a top player. Same problem, inconsistency. As much as we've learned about judging people for what they have done instead of who were they, i think it should be the same here. Now, arif is no longer anak emas, though.
Good Luck to HH & KBH at the 2009 BAC (Badminton Asia Championships) . And so we are back again to look at the performances of HH and KBH. This time, it's at the 2009 BAC (Badminton Asia Championships) at Suwon, Korea (April 7-12). Their first matches will commence in just a few hours' time. Here, HH is seeded 12 and KBH 14. It looks like both of them could clear Round 1 without problems. But in Round 2, HH will be playing against Chen Long (CHN), while KBH will be against Kennevic Asuncion (PHI) or Le Ha Anh (VIE). May we wish both HH & KBH, the 'Best of Luck'. .
HH to face Chen Long in Round 2 tonight, Wednesday 8-April . As expected at the 2009 BAC, in Round 1: Hashim Muhammad Hafiz [12][MAS] defeated [NEP] Paneru Raju 21-6, 21-7 in 15 mins Chen Long[CHN] defeated [NEP] Tamang Ratnajeet 21-4, 21-7 in 17mins HH will now face CL in Round 2 tonight, Wednesday 8-April. .
2009 BAC GP Gold: KBH will now face Kennevic-A in Round 2 . Also as expected at the 2009 BAC, in Round 1: Kuan Beng Hong [14][MAS] defeated [JPN] Yamada Kazushi 21-15, 21-13 in 30 mins. Kennevic Asuncion[PHI] defeated [VIE] Le Ha Anh 21-15, 21-13 (same score, but in 17 mins) KBH will now face Kennevic-A in Round 2 tonight, Wednesday 8-April, at 8:40pm. .
^^We shall see what decisions will BAM hand down to both of them..^^ ..here are the results, for both HH & KBH, of their required tournaments (as stated in page 1, post #1): KBH: 12 Apr 2009 Happy Suwon Badminton Asia Championships 2009 - 1/16 29 Mar 2009 Yonex-Sunrise India Open Gold GP 2009 - Quarter-Finalist 15 Mar 2009 WILSON Swiss Open Super Series 2009 - Qualifier 08 Mar 2009 YONEX All England Super Series 2009 - Qualifier HH: 12 Apr 2009 Happy Suwon Badminton Asia Championships 2009 - 1/32 29 Mar 2009 Yonex-Sunrise India Open Gold GP 2009 - Runner-Up If BAM is happy with KBH reaching the QF in one of the 4 events, then he'll stay. If not, adios amigo! If BAM is happy with HH reaching the Semifinals round in one of the 2 events, he'll stay. If not, selamat jalan teman!
When Juniors is not up to the senior level of play, it's hard for BAM to let go these 2 shuttlers. I think it would be another KKK/TBH's story - they will perform, give them chance.
So.. ..if that's really the case, then the "warnings" by BAM are nothing more than "hot air talks" just to light up a fire under them...
Move on ... These two players are not that young anymore and have been given so many chances to make thing right but yet to deliver. I think just exclude them from the national team and let them team up with some other private clubs as the change may be better for both sides. The youngsters may not be ready to take over and may need to look into the training program plus philosophy. BAM needs to move on and also look hard into our coaching staff, results speak for themselves for both players and coaches.
