Don't worry, the umpire made sure to even out this first mistake by making another mistake in the second game, by not calling a fault on CL which was clearly taken before it crossed the tape... ;)

Yup, there two taps by CL. The umpire evens it out.

Wowie! The finals served up five very delicious matches! Congratulations to all the winners, and to all the opponents on this day!

I didn't watch the live stream, but just completed watching them on replay. The medals ceremonies were great to watch, too. In particular, I noticed that most players were admiring Snoopy as much as the medals! :D

    Even Sandra! :p

I thought that the firsts fault called on CL was that his racket head crossed the net instead of hitting the shuttle before crossing the net. If I was not mistaken, after he pounced on the shuttle, his momentum brought his racket head way over the net... forgive me if I remembered incorrectly...

i'm too lazy to pull up the laws of badminton, lol, but as long as you hit it on your side, your racket is allowed to follow thru over the net

but your opponent is not allowed to impede your follow thru... which was what CL complained about on another net kill that was incredibly saved by LCW sticking his racket about 6 inches away from the net

Well, the WS Finalists threw their Snoopys in the crowd on their honor lap :)
I found it nice, the lucky ones who cought one could convert into chinese supporters :D

By the way, after the finals we met Kenichi Tago in a very good chinese restaurant nearby. Poor fellow could hardly eat because staff and visitors asked for autograms / photos!

No, we just enjoyed the food and the fact that Kenichi sat two tables away.
And, the whole Korean team entered the restaurant, but they went into a separate room, hiding from the crowd :)

The second mistake you are referring to should not be made. It was not even close, considering where the umpire sat. The shuttle LCW hit was obviously not crossing over. But if LCW got that point, it would be a very cheap point for him.

Snoopy is cute but they will miss the massage chairs, especially after retirement.

Now that you mention it, yeah you're right... I also don't recall seeing the prize cheques being handed out. Perhaps AE being the oldest tournament, the organizers figured just holding that prestige is enough. :p

You can probably get one free if you purchase a MetLife life insurance policy. :p
Yeah, I'm thinking the umpire realized his first mistake and so was looking for the next opportunity to even out and correct that. :p

This is an unlucky one for CL to lose the point.

It would have been different had CL extended his racket to touch or clash with LCW's racket. Then LCW would have been faulted for obstructing CL's follow through.

BTW nice to hear from my partner Hagen in KL after such a long time! Remember the satays?

Iirc, I don't think it is usually done. But I really want to know what the prize money is!

Anybody know? No guessing, no assumptions. The actual figure given to the winners.

What money? The players do it for the prestige, and the pride of representing their country!

And for headlining the slogan "play badminton! see the world! eat and sleep at dodgy dives, and meet exotic babes and frantic fans!"
