Thanks, CLELY, for opening the thread. I also noticed that CHN didn't send all their national team players to participate in this event as LYB originally intended, don't know why he or CBA changed their minds.

It was earlier reported that LYB had wanted to invite Lee CW to play as well but,as expected, that's highly unlikely to happen. Why would Lee CW be willing to waste his time on such a tier-4 event even if the whole CHN national squad is competing, and for pittance?

Apart from a few lower 2nd national team players such as MS Xue Song, Huang Yuxiang,Guo Kai,WS Liu Xin, Hui Xirui, Chen Xiaojia,MD Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen,WD Luo Ying/Luo Yu,Xia Huan/Zhong Qianxin, the bulk of CHN players are juniors and provincial/municipal level players, several of whom can be seen playing in the CBSL.

Hope livestreams are available when the tournament starts.

The foreign players are mostly from HKG, TPE and MAS, with a few from INA, USA, AUS, and CAN.

Btw, I don't recall such an event being held before. Interestingly, it's being held during the Spring Festival, aka Chinese New Year, period which begins on the first day of the first lunar month (usually in late January or early February) and ends on the 15th day of the first lunar month (the Lantern Festival).

The most anticipated match will be Lin Dan / Lee ChongWei vs Cai Yun / Fu HaiFeng :)

It will be the first match on the final day.

Except for just a handful of players, the competitors are all from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong

In R1 today, going by the score, CHN MS Zhou Yujie (a 'nobody' to me), must have given the No.2 seed Wei Nan a fright before capitulating, WN winning a hard-fought three-setter, 19-21,21-14,21-16 in 59 mins.

OTOH, 7th seed Tam Chun Hei prevailed over Guo Kai who disappointed, losing in two straight sets, 21-18,21-17 in 40 mins. In fact, the last time they met at the Macau Open'13, Guo Kai also lost to TCH in a close three-set encounter.

At the bottom half, I'd expect either Wei Nan, the more likely, or Tam Chun Hei to advance to the final, I'm not confident that Huang Yuxuang or Liao Junwei who somewhat surprisingly denied the 4th Seed Wan Chia-Hsin's progress can do better than the two HKG prospects.

At the top half, I'm inclined to pick Xue Song as the chief contender to contest the MS Final but, still, en route he cannot afford to take esp. Ng Ka Long who once beat Son Wan Ho at the HK SS'13 or even Lin Yu Hsien lightly.

In the WS, I'd venture to say Liu Xin is practically unstoppable, perhaps her compatriots Chen Xiaojia and Hui Xirui can put up decent resistance against her.

Li Yongbo has just confirmed the MD Exhibition Match between Lin Dan/Lee CW vs Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng will be held as planned on the Finals Day of the China International Challenge 2014 at Lingshui,Hainan island, prior to the start of the tournament proper.

It was revealed that originally LYB intended the MD exhibition match to be played between Lin Dan and Lee CW as one pair versus Taufik Hidayat and Chen Long as the other. But, unfortunately, TH who initially accepted the invitation said he could not make it as he would be involved in activities relating to the coming INA presidential election;hence LYB thought of getting Cai Yun and Fu Haifieng to replace him and CL instead.

For the Exhibition Match, the organizer is putting on sale 1000 (one thousand) tickets, each priced at 380 RMB. Let us enjoy such a rare phenomenon. Look forward to viewing it on livestream or youtube later, if available.

LD/LCW vs. TH/PG would be even crazier.

Then it will be a lopsided wash, 2 current players versus two retired oldtimers.

Probably not, playing MD doesn't need as much stamina as MS. I bet TH/PG will beat LD/LCW. I watched youtube videos of LD playing doubles. He is not a good double player.
