    OTC & JK1980,

I disagree, better to stick with three courts.

    The reasons being:
    a) Quality matches rather than quantity matches.

    b) The cost of booking three courts will be lower.

    c) Cost of shuttles too will be lower, and thus, last longer.

    d) Also, my personal experience, i wanted to play some good matches with my fellow buddies, like Adrian, Chris, William, Joe and Uncle........no chance for me, as the ad hoc players seems to be sticking their shoes & rackets on the court - meaning not giving other players the chance to play.

    e) Regular players should always be the priority, not the ad hoc players. if i don't get the chance to play, might as well i become an ad hoc player, rite?

    f) Difficult to control if the group is so big, with four courts and all. I recall one of our friends lost an iphone recently........not pointing fingers at anyone, but how well do you know the weekly ad hoc players????

It's only my opinion, my two cents worth.

    Hope my argument is valid.

    Thank you.

    Richard

Hi richard, you haven't read about the new system we have for DaveC's thursday session.

    It works like this.
Initially each player also can simply go into court to play. But once they play, the winner will move to the left court and the lose to the right court.
So, after a few rounds, the better players will be rotated to the left and the more beginner players will be rotated to the right.
Naturally there will be winners and losers....so the players will be able to play with players that are slightly better or lower level than them.
Partnership can change once they move to the next court. Optional.
Like this, we are able to ensure the quality of the games. Also able to give opportunity for players to play against players that are move closer to their level for better enjoyment and skill improvement.
    I think it's a very good system.
For monday session's game, we get 3 courts to use this system.
Then one of the rubber courts towards the far left is for more casual play...meaning non-competitive one. For players maybe such as amelia and aunt chooi that are in for more relaxing games. Or for other players to join in while waiting.

i fully agree with richard to stick to 3 courts only so that we (members) are in control and able to get quality games. For the past 2 sessions I have not got a chance to have good games.

with due respect to the our capt

Curse & swear the bastard/bitch who stole our friend's iPhone, wish he/she will die on the road while talking on the stolen iPhone & being stabbed deeply before robbing his/her iPhone while showing off in front of his/her friends. If he/she plays badminton, hope the shuttlecock will kena his/her eye till blind permanently. It's kinda sicko to have such person appears within the group & happened.

stick to 3 courts, and KNOW YOUR FRIENDS WELL within the courts !

    Guys,

Thank you for your thoughts and opinions. I definitely do take things into consideration and I truly also appreciate the value of a good game.

@Joe: It's not so much of categorizing players because if the good only play with the good then the-not-so-good-ones will never improve. Then again, why do we want so many people? It does not spell extra income and neither do i want another iphone going missing.

@Richard: I understand when you say you can't play with your friends because I feel the same way.

@Koh: I'm sorry to hear that. We'll try to make it enjoyable for everyone.

But one thing's for sure, we'll stick to 3 courts only. About the new concept, I'll think about it. I'm not saying no, don't get me wrong but I do want to decide what's best for the team.

If i've offended anybody, I apologize. Whatever decisions I make is solely for the better enjoyment and satisfaction for all, ya? I hope to continue seeing you guys this Monday!!

    More satays for everyone! :D

Hi Suzanne, with this system. The good will get to play with the players slightly better. Because each court will have winner and loser. So they will move up and down one court.
What we want to avoid is players jumping from court to court without waiting.
And also to male sure each game's players will be more or less the same level.
Also, more beginner players can use this system to slowly improve And see themselves moving more towards the higher level player's court.

    Revised suggestion:

Go with 4 courts rather than 3, it's too packed & no comfortable buffer zone.

    Hi Joe,

I fully disagreed with your comments. Aunt Chooi and me enjoying the game but doesn't means that we are not looking for a quality game....We also hoping to play with some better player in order to help us to be improved (fully agreed with William noted)...just as like yourself too, rite?

We disagreed with 4 courts, mainly b'cos we unable to enjoy to play along with our usual players more and also it doesn't make sense through this method we will be improved? or cheaper cost??

If in this case, we would rather consider as a add-hoc players loh....:)

Amelia, my proposal is for a casual court that anyone can play. Suitable for leisurely player that everyone can go in irregardless of level.

In the case of the 3 remaining court that follow this system. Let's say court 3 is beginner, court 5 is intemeriwte and court 7 is advanced, then 3 will mix with 5 and 5 will mix more with 7.
But 3 will not mix that much with 7 because of the gap in level.
As for the casual court (court 9)
It will be the rubber court that currently you and auntie Chooi is already playing.
So we will still join in sometimes while waiting for our turn at the other courts.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for your comments. About the 4 courts, don't worry about it. We can always get it back the next time. There'll always be chances. Let's just stick to what is comfortable first, aight?

And I will try the new implemented concept on Thursday.

Ok, I've thought hard about it and the only way to compromise both parties is this; We'll maintain the 4 courts but we set some rules.

Here's the new rules for now at least:
    1. Court 7 is pro regular members. (which means priority goes to regulars)
    2. Court 1,3 and 5 are for ad-hocs and regulars alike.
    3. Players please practice fairness to allow others to play as well. After all, it's a social affair so let's be nice.
    4. If there's a certain person you'd like to play with, go ahead and make arrangements for a good game. (Count me in as well ya? :p)

I hope I covered it all. I love this group very much so let's try to maintain and hopefully we'll be able to have a mini internal tournament in future. Losers pay for dinner!

    Cheers! :D

    Joe,

Firstly, we would never say "do not allow others to play at the rubber court currently we played". You are always welcome to play if you wanna to...The point is, you are always think that me & auntie Chooi's level is far beyond you, you set yourself in a high level standard, this is not the right attitude as a good player..(if you wanna to improved to be so....)

Somehow, we always have the right to choose the "partner" that we like to play to....Seriously, I don't really enjoy the palyer who is always blaming his/her "partner" when they lost the game at the end of the day...Everyone has their "weakness", just don't keeping telling people how they should play or etc....Eventually, it will make your partner loose concentration in the entire game.(personal opinion)

Actually.we just wanna to enjoy the game in a "comfortable environment".....:)

    amelia,

I am not sure where you got the idea that i said 'do not allow others to play at the rubber court currently we played'.
Please do not take this the wrong way. My suggestions are merely that....suggestions.

What i have suggested is to have a court for casual play while the other 3 courts will have some sort of governance system to ensure the playing level is more even. This casual play court will fit what you are saying where players are able to play with any other players that they like irregardless of level.

For the other 3 courts, it is just a system that some players will like because it allows them to actually have a gauge on where they are now. And slowly probably move up the ranks. It will be a more competitive system.

So we have 2 systems. One for pure casual play and for people to play with people they like. One that is more competitive.

I am not singling out you and auntie chooi. The reason I am quoting your name is simply because I think you mentioned to me yourself that you are looking for casual play and not really thinking to win all the time. It is just to have fun. Right? So that's what the casual court would be for. And you also mentioned you don't like going to the other courts, so by having this casual court, I don't think there are any differences from your perspective.
