    Well noticed, its caused by the sudden tension in the racket arm, I don't thnk it affects the pre-hit impression given to opponent, though its an interesting observation. All of these shots are a work in progress.

    While this is a video of mostly deceptive skill, if its overused it would be ineffective. Some of these shots are best used occasionally on return serve, other at the end of a long hard rally.

    very nice deceptive shots there...

    imo, mostly effective in singles play though, frequently used by LCW, PG, LD

    hey dlp/Alex

    can you explain further about the "sliced backhand cross lift deceptive shot" and the last two deceptive shots? I've always wondered how to do those shots but I couldn't get the hang of it haha.

    Slice lift - approach shuttle as if playing net then lift shuttle by moving racket sharply across and up slicing the shuttle , also using finger strength to impart power. You need to use a lot of racket head speed.

    Straight net deceptive- move along net as you play shot as if you were following cross net, let the shuttle slice off the racket face in opposite direction. We were doing it off a spinning feed but start with a normal feed. The body movement and swing towards cross court gives the deception. Alex is the player I'm the coach

    I enjoyed your video. You are doing it so natuarally-means lot of effort have gone in this. Wish I had similar skills!

    Thanks nprince, there's a similar video from his younger brother on the facebook page (see above). Will try and shoot some proper video before the season starts (first international is end of August), these were just some iphone clips.

    maybe one you wont notice: at ~1:03 you are at the net. your partner play drop from the 'back' (more like mid-court) of the court and you back away into sides-formation. you should have stayed at the net.

    I think a big improvement could come from footwork - you have no split step at all. See ~3.20 for example.

    3.50 - you are receiving in left court, and push to deep backhand corner (except that the rear player is lefty). You immediately cover a down-the-line shot when you should ordinarily be (at least a bit) more guarded for cross-court. Look where you and your partner end up at 3.51. Maybe this is because you know your opponent too well?

    4:10 to 4:16 your stance is really wrong. Any smash or good drop to your forehand wins the point. Did I mention no split drop already? ;)

    5:10 - Another instance of you backing away from net when you should stay in.

    Thank you Amleto for the feed back-I agree with your findings,

    I agree, I have this bad habit. In our regular days of club game,
    I had this partner whose game was drops and more drops-very
    slow infact, which opponents had enough time to cover and
    smash. After getting a few on my face, I started backing out-
    anyway, time for me to get back to basics.


    I agree, this game was at a very relaxed pace with not so
    great opponents. Hence took all the liberty to save some
    energy. Anyway, I shall check my game with better
    opponents and see how i am doing. Thanks for pointing out.

    Was trying to exploit the very weak backhand of that
    particular opponent.

    And looks like I need to loose some weight as well. @6.1 inch tall & 96 Kgs, my movement really looks awkaward. And recovering from a gread 2 tear in ankle ligment & tennis elbow is not helping things either.

    Haha, I'm actually 6 foot 2 :D Although we're both of pretty slim built so we probably look a bit taller^^
