Their good defense deserted them yesterday, especially from Hoon Thien How. Overall, I believe that it was a good learning experience for them as they realise that counter-attack and defense is... well... impossible to win against the top pairs. They need to add more power. They were also much slower than the Chinese pair. Hoon Thien How and Tan Wee Kiong both need to move faster around court. But all credit to them for reaching the QF, even though HTH has a minor injury to his knee. I believe that they have the potential to go even better if their defense is consistent and solid. A nice contrast to the attacking game shown by GWS/LKW.
Looks like Hoon Thien How decided to withdraw from the French Open because of his minor knee injury... hope he recovers soon and he and Tan Wee Kiong can get back to improving on their game!
HTH hasnt have a lot of luck in finding a good partner. This is bad enough. I really hope he is not seriuosly injured. All the best to him.
i think he got good chemistry with twk... what he need is i think he need to improve his physical condition... other than that, everything seems to be fine.. twk has variety of shots, while i can see hth has the killer shots as well as the placing shots... hope he can qualify for OG12..
HTH is more experienced but injury caused him to make many mistakes, I do not think he is the weaker link. Give them time before we judge whether they are better than Goh/Lim or not, even more so after HTH has healed from his injury.
regarding goh/lim, for me they have good potential to become malaysian 2nd pair behind kkk/tbh (and maybe 1st malaysian pair for long term)... but to compare with hth/twk, i think it's too early... maybe we need to wait for several tournaments (maybe early next year) to identify which pair is better
Now it is GWS/LKW's turn to meet CY/FHF. appreciate the discussion here but this is Ah How thread...lets discuss about Ah Wah and Ah V in the elite thread shall we??
managed to watch Ah How and Ah Kiong video against Alvent/Hendra and also FHF/CY of coz the INA pair a bit off form but i am quite impressed with Ah Kiong.. he seems comfortable partnering Ah How, good defence and hard smashing and some innovative shots....of coz they need more exposure and experience and cut down on mistakes... as against CY/FHF, paying too much respect to opponent cost them the game...CY/FHF shows great confidence from the start and started to rattle them from the start...our pair only rely on defence and counter attacks to get points. in order to beat CY/FHF or any top pairs, they need to have good attacking games.... defense wise, i think we are good, but we cant win by defence only....hope they can work on this point...
i agree with u on this... i think in defense, malaysian pair are top class... i this we can see it since razif/jalani playing time, malaysian pair good at defence... same as hth n twk... what we r lacking is attacking shots (just like the korean pair)...
you bring back the memories of the good old end 1980s and mid 1990s where 4 pairs dominated the MD scene KOR legendary Park joo Bong/Kim Moon Soo, CHN mastermind Li Yong Bo/ Tian Bing Yi INA Rudy Gunawan/ Eddy Hartono and our very own Razif/Jalani... i remember during one of the game between Rafiz/Jalani against one of the pair...the commentator praised our good defense and actually counted the amount of smashes that the Sidek brothers can save during one service play and it exceed 10 smashes!!!!!
the mas coaches must realize that hth must lose at least 10 lbs to be fit enough to at least play at this international level, don't they?
HTH has to lose some weight first before he can jump higher. Actually, I found one in BC, TheSmasherKing, Haha.
hahaha... thanx bro... good one... i hope to lose some weight too... hehehe... but frankly speaking, if HTH can lose some weight, i believe he can smashes harder tahn what he can do now... actually, by now he has a hard smash with his current condition.. so just imagine what will happen if he able to get slimmer?
i trust your judgement and agree with you in some way....earlier many complaint that his smash is not hard enough but after watching his game, saw some of his smashes reached 250 km/h....of coz maybe due to his body condition he can only do that 1-2 times in one service....if he can reduce his fats....i think not only better smash, but also better court coverage...
