So this 52-wk period means 2009 points cannot carry over to 2010 and 2010 is start over beginning Jan 2010 i.e. just 2 months. If that is so, maintaining WR1 in 2011 and 2012 will be difficult for all the old folkies. And if Dato or LD select SS to play, if will even be more difficult to make it to WR1. So, if a good player like say, LD or LCW skip 2010, middle of 2011 and has a banner year from July 2011 to July 2012 earning WR1 status, will that means he will WR1 at OLY12?

What it means that..for example..after AE 2010 ranking is counted..points of AE 2009 will be erased..so LCW will carry Swiss Open 2009 ranking points till AE 2010..after next week..LCW will caary ranking points onward and swiss Open 2009 will be erased..( in 2009 SO, I believe LCW was the winner)

LCW, LD, PG and TH are said to all retire together at the same time

    .
The 2012 Olympic Games was the time-frame chosen because our 4 great 'Heavenly Kings', namely; LCW, LD, PG and TH, are said to all retire together at the same time after that event.

Personally, I think these 4 kings could still hold on to their top positions (say top 8) at the 2012 Olympic Games, with LCW still holding the No.1 position.

So when the SO 2010 is done, LCW will lose all his ranking points from SO 2009, right? Because he's not in SO 2010, he doesn't add any points, so everyone catches up a little to him.

Yes..then the next best 10 will be counted ( or best 9 plus one team event points from sudirman cup)....but he adds points from AE too...

But that's just the difference between this and last year's AE points.

..yes, that's correct. The time frame (of 52 weeks) goes along as each millisecond, each second, each minute, each hour, each day, each week, each month & each tournament pass by.
So, technically, by the time the 2012 OG rolls around (as what the thread question is asking), BWF will only take the tourney pts accummulated from Summer of 2011 til Summer 2012 (or whenever is the last date for the 2012 WR Qualification) and rank the players/pairs.

It is exactly how our PAW ranking points in our BC PAW Games are done

    .
It is exactly how our PAW ranking points in our BC PAW Games are done.

Sandy is using exactly the same time-span, the same points awarded, the same addition/substraction of points to/from our PAWers, etc...

Then LCW and LD can take a sabatical, pick-choose what to play and catch up from summer 2011 to summer 2012 to gain WR1 for OLY12.

Thanks for the clarification. Then you are correct, the young guns if they peak at that time can challenge for WR1.

There is no debate, no arguments...just clarification from Rudy:p

Can LCW hold on to his World No.1 ranking until the 2012 Olympic Games?

    .
Some might think/say that winning ONE tournament title is a short-term goal. In this context, LCW winning the 2010 All-England title is only one of his short-term goals.

Some of us think that LCW is planning to be World No.1 (in terms of the BWF ranking points) until the 2012 Olympic Games. In this context, we need to examine LCW's performances in ALL tournaments until the 2012 Olympics.

The comments here are related to whether LCW can hold on to his World No.1 ranking position until the 2012 Olympic Games.

so very interesting event is going to happen come 2012 olympic games, probably start of 2013 we expect some 'younger' players like chen long, chen jin, bcl, sdk, cwf, tcs ..... to take up the 1-10 world ranking spots......

Chen Long coming in to challenge Lee Chong Wei's WR No.1 ranking

    .
Much was said about Chen Long coming in to challenge Lee Chong Wei's WR No.1 ranking in this thread.

It started very early in this thread (as early as from Post #2). ;););)

yes, i know that and this is a cycle where the champions will eventually becomes less competitive and retires as times goes by, then new players emerge....

as for lcw to maintain no.1 until 2012, i agree with quite a number of bcers here that it is possible but beyond that it will be very hard and i think lcw himself also know...:D

    Watch out for Kenichi Tago

    .
Here, we are talking about up to the 2012 OG.

After the 2010 All-England Championships (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=BC74159A-75FE-4310-B192-8AE684721561), some have said that Kenichi Tago could be the one who could overtake Lee Chong Wei as world No.1.

We shall watch out for Kenichi Tago. Here is his impressive 2010 All-England results:

sad to say highly unlikely as there are more good or equivalent players as tago. and tago has to get pass them first and i don't think lyb would allow that as he has too many at stake!:D

I edited my post, after your reply, with Kenichi Tago's impressive 2010 All-England results:
    http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sp...1561&player=19

    Have a look at KT's results;
    Kenichi Tago[IMG][JPN] defeated [IMG][CHN] Jin Chen [3] 22-20, 19-21, 21-13
    Kenichi Tago[IMG][JPN] defeated [IMG][CHN] Chunlai Bao [6] 18-21, 22-20, 21-18

I don't see what LYB has got to do to with who is to be World No.1; when you said
"i don't think lyb would allow that as he has too many at stake".:confused::confused:

There are too many conjectures here. Chen Long this and Tago that, really have no meaning.

LCW is champ right now and we should live with that for now.
