It is very sad to see Sony Dwi Kuncoro beaten by Shuhei Hayasaki, an unknown Japanese player, in Round 1 of the Qualifying Draw of the 2011 Yonex Japan Open. SDK was a very good player before he was hit by injuries and it appears that he has not made a complete recovery. It was good to see him reach the semi-final stage of the 2011 Yonex Chinese Taipeh Tournament 2 weeks ago where he was beaten by Tommy Sugiato and it was thought that he was on the bend for good. Those who follow him will recall his winning the 2010 Singapore Open, the 2008 China Masters, the 2008 Indonesian Open, the 2008 Yonex Japan Open and reaching the final of the 2007 World Championship. I wonder whether the loss will so demoralize him that he gives up badminton for good.
I miss him too. I thought he can make a come back. But after several tournament he has not shown a good result. I guess it is really hard after the injury. It just breaking my heart. i really like his play.
Hiks.. poor Sony. Perhaps he should start from scratch by entering more on IC level first if he still want and his body allow him to come back to this A game. LYB once said that Sony is technically very good. He is still 27, I believe he can still do something.
You are right, he's still young enough that he may possibly recover enough to make the top ten again. But if he can't make a comeback, he would be a very sought-after coach upon retirement. Do you agree?
Sony has chance to be demoted from pelatnas if during Thomas Cup simulation he can't beat the younger pelatnas players. source : http://pontianakpost.com/index.php?mib=berita.detail&id=103528
SDK has not performed really well after recovering from Injury...Same as MKY.. they did not perform as they did in their peak though..
Sony defeated Lin Dan in SF Thailand GPG straight set by 21-17 21-16!! He is on his way back. Remember, Sony is INA MS with most SS title (4 SS title, CMIIW).
Well done sony. Congrats for being Trending Topic World Wide in twitter today, and yesterday Good luck in INA Open, hope he still got the stamina..
Sony is back! And probably save Li Mao been questioned again and again why hasn't there been mprovement in the INA ms. I suppose this will silence those critics for sometime. good job both of them
i think sony is back now.. and he is better than before.. good luck in the indonesia open.. bring back the glory!!
Yeah..... Good Job Sony.... I hope he could bring his spirit he had on Thai GPG to the INA premier.. He might be INA 1st MS on the 2013 SC, hopefully he will...
SDK has shown his composure by already won 10 matches consecutively (6 in Thailand GPG 2012 and 4 already in INA SSP 2012). One feature that is rare to be found in INA players. Let's hope he can go far to win 3 remaining matches in INA SSP 2012. He did this streak of winnings on 2008 when he won 10 matches in a row in 2 SS (Japan and China Master).
I've seen a couple of his matches online at the Indonesian Open - in qualification and against Peter and a bit against Taufik. He is definitely showing flashes of his former brillance. He is still strong, he's still accurate and he's still smart. And he's moving pretty well. But have you noticed how he seems to strain to reach shots at the net. It just looks like he's working hard to get the net shots. Is this a sign that his back ha not gained it's old strength and flexibilty? If so, it is a bad sign for stamina throughout a long season. Does any longtime Sony watcher have any comment on this?
lovely pics.. Sony kiss her daughter right after he beat TH http://sport.detik.com/readfoto/201.../463/5/sony-hayom-ke-perempat-finals993306463
Sony Dwi Kuncoro lost to Du Pengyu 21-12, 21-15, in the QF match of the Djarum Indonesian Open 2012, as he played one match too many and his body just could not take the physical exertion anymore as could be seen in the long rallies. He played 6 matches in 5 days in Thailand last week, flew back to Jakarta on Monday 11/6/12 night and had to play the next day to qualify till today 15/6/12, ie 5 matches in 4 days. All in all, Sony played 11 matches in 9 days and that is tough. If Sony did not have to play the qualifying matches, maybe he could have progressed further. Hopefully, his ranking will go up with the good showing in Thailand and Indonesia and that in future tournaments, he does not have to play the qualifying matches.
