    China leads foreign charge in RP badminton meet

    MANILA, Philippines - Powerhouse China, led by a former world junior champion, has confirmed its participation in the Bingo Bonanza Philippine Open Grand Prix Badminton Championship on July 1-5 at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

    Also confirming their entry to the $120,000 Grand Prix Gold event are England, Vietnam, Germany, Canada, Wales and Malaysia. Organizers are still waiting for confirmations from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, India, Chinese-Taipei, Japan, Russia and Macau.

    "We have invited many more players outside Asia so we're expecting a really exciting event," said Albee Benitez, president of the sponsoring Bingo Bonanza, on Monday in a press statement.

    Joining ex-world junior champ Chen Long as China’s representatives to the men's singles competition are Zhou Wenlong, Du Pengyu, Gao Huan and Lu Qiching.

    The Chinese ladies team for the singles events is composed of Jiang Yanjiao, Wang Xin, Wang Shixian and Li Xuerui.

    Other top ranked players who have confirmed their participation in the men's singles event were World No. 11 Tien Minh Nguyen of Vietnam, No. 22 Andrew Smith of England, Welshman Raj Popat and Malaysia's Wee Chung Pei.

    Also in the hunt for a title in the women's side are Vietnam's Nguyen Nhung Le Ngoc, world No. 49 Charmaine Reid of Canada and No. 52 Nicole Grether of Germany.

    On its third edition in four years, the event will also feature men's and ladies doubles and mixed doubles competitions. – Perry Legaspi, GMANews.TV

    (BTW TMN of Vietnam is reported to have been sponsored by Victor of Taiwan to compete in the Singapore Open in June.)

    A specially prepared album with the pictures of your idol and space for him/her to sign either on or below the pic. Have a good pen ready for this. ;)

    Or you may wish to have them sign on:

    * the program, if any
    * your cap
    * your T-shirt(s)
    * a shuttlecock each
    * your badminton bag
    * have a friend take a pic with your idol with a special camera and get his signature on your pic, if possible

    Good Luck! :D

    Wow, Chen Long might get a title there :D Too bad no Wang Zhengming.. For ladies, finally we can see Wang Xin playing at the international tournament after she joined the first team. Let's wait and see how far Wang Xin can go, she is not tall, and her style of play is similar to JYJ. My dearest sister is playing there also :D

    Wang Xin is 24 this year. I tell u something special about her, she never gone through the second team election and she also not named in the second team. She was chosen directly from her province team (Team Bayi) to the first team :eek: She is the first person that never gone through the second team training that can be directly chosen to the first team, so must watch out of her :D

    Yeah, just wondering why CHN doesn't send Wang Zhengming, 2008 World Junior Champion.

    No. But if she is also successful, then we can see a Wang dynasty in Chinese Badminton:
    Wang Chen
    Wang Yihan
    Wang Lin
    Wang Xin
    Wang Zhengming
    :D

    haha, yaya Wang dynasty :D Actually there is still a junior called Wang Shixian 19 years old this year, 2008 WJC semi finalist. If this girl is also successful in the future, it would make the Wang dynasty getting larger and larger :D

    Oh no! Not my baddy shoes. :eek: We don't want the spectators and the players to run away once I bring it out.

    And not in the triceps area!!! :eek: We don't want the players to pass out.

    Maybe I'll just buy the program booklet or something.

    Or maybe my racket cover. But it's black. Is there such a thing as a white-inked ballpen/marker?

    INA players going to Manila shall be (unless PBSI management changed their mind again):

    MS
    Tommy Sugiarto
    Nugroho Andi Saputro (a.k.a. Gepeng)
    Yoga Pratama

    WS
    Aprilia Yuswandari
    Melicia Kurniawan
    Linda Weni Fanetri
    Rizki Amelia Pradipta

    MS
    Bona-Ahsan
    Rian-Yoke
    Edo-Lingga
    Alvent-Hendra

    WD
    Mel-Shendy
    Greysia-Nintya
    Pia-Debby

    XD
    Tantowi-Richie
    Rizal-Debby
    Fran-Pia
    Lingga-Keshya
    Hendra-Vita

    All I know for now is that China will send their 2nd tier players like Chen Long etc. Our MD and XD lineup should provide enough firepower against CHN's 2nd tier MD and XD players... While in WD... err... even China's 2nd tier WD are extremely good... :p I just hope we will have enough 1 pair left in the SF of WD...
