Sorry I am sure this has been covered before but, do you know what grip Taufik uses/used? Just looking at the solibad ebay pic it looks like longer threads than the yonex towel grip.

Though i am big fan of Cricket, i love the style of Taufik and very much loved his back-hand. Really a great boon to our eyes to watch such a wonderful player in our life time. Whether or not, we would be able to watch him on court hereafter ( as a coach), we can pray for him to have a wonderful life ahead ...

Taufik ..I miss you very much:crying:

hmmm... hard to summarize taufik hidayat's career.... he is the most naturally gifted badminton player the world has seen to this date... perhaps even more talented than Alan BudiKusuma and Ardy Wiranata last time who were also great players...

the last few years may not have been very kind in terms of results to him....(post 2010 era)...

BUT his best remembered achievements would most probably be beating Lin Dan in the finals of Asian Games 2002,2006, World Championship'2005 and the olympic games2004 GOLD medal matchh.......

don't think anybody is good or talented enough to do that.... if Taufik wanted to win a major tournament... he would take it with no qualms....

WHAT a player , what a backhand !!!! hats down to Lin Dan... hats up to you SIR ...

The Indian Badminton League has certainly benefited from having Taufik Hidayat on its rolls.
He is a huge draw in India too, with a fan base perhaps as massive as that in Indonesia.

However, it is gut-wrenchingly sad to see him play again in a competitive arena.
His game is now a faint echo of the amazing array of skills, power and speed that made him one of the greatest badminton players ever... and the difference between the Taufik of today and the Taufik of yesterday was all too evident in his loss tonight to Darren Liew at the IBL.

As a huge fan of this inimitable player, my view is that he should have stayed away from actual competition and merely lent his name and presence to the conduct and success of the League (and the sport).

Legends should stay on their pedestals for us to look up to them.
There's plenty of lesser mortals to fight and win the battles below.

^ Very true. For that reason top athletes should always retire when they're at their peak still winning, not when they're past their prime and start losing to hungry new comers.

What's a guy to do when they dump a truck load of money at your door just for you to show up?

Maybe he just loves the sport and these events so much that he doesn't want to stop? I think he just wants to have a good time and doesn't care about his performance anymore

Just to keep this thread alive, this is Taufik's performance that we missed for years. He was only 17 or 18 years old at that time...

    wooow, that sound!
    It's like every smash is at 300 Km/h :)
(Maybe it was that fast, but back then there was nobody to analize it ... :D)

It's not just how hard/fast they smashed but their movements were damn insanely fast on court (at least to my eyes). Notice on the 00:22 and 00:43 for example on how Taufik intercepted the defensive clears from PG, it's been something that people might have never seen for the last decade.

Asian games are not counted in official head-to-head records if I remember correctly.

I've never watched the IO 2004 match though. I tried finding a video but never managed to.
