the doubles part has been discussed here: http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52223
How abotu this thread focus just on singles players???? Taufik absolutely is a god at the net, he wins points with incredible netshots, and sets up for his big smashes. LCW is a monster at the net, because he uses it primarily to lead to a kill. When I see him play, I see his main weapon is his speed and killing ability at the net. LD uses the net differently. Not to just walk up and do net kills a lot (which he did to great success in OG08), but IMO, to set up for his big jump smash. We see LD's main attacking area is at the rearcourt, and his netplay serves as the way he gets the ability to attack.
No variety?? Well, when we ought to have 100 players to be picked as having the best net game, why should we put a limit into 60 choices?
http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52223 Well there's that thread about frontmen....which = net players... Okay what the heck, this isnt' my thread
The threads have been merged and the title has been changed. However, the poll is still only on Men's Doubles players
Cool. However, singles players may be discussed as well right?? Netplay is probably what seperates the best singles players from those below them.
Singles... Taufik and LCW at the moment. LCW is improving more and more. Doubles.. Tony G, KKK. Rexy not bad either. In fact KKK learn most of his tricks from Rexy.
LYD is essentially a super attack cum defend machine. He does not dominate the net.If that were true, the match stats would show most points scored at the net. That's the real meaning of 'dominating'.When LYD hunts the net constantly,it means he's desperately losing or closing out a match. Hendra Setiawan is not an attack cum machine. He spends more time in the forecourt than his partner so he is essentially a net hunter.Hendra also has the gift of reading his opponents' game so well, his racket should be checked because it seems to have the magic of attracting the shuttle so it just bounces across the opponents side before they even know it.(Really Hendra's racket should be inspected.) LYD is good at the net as a part timer;Hendra is so great at the net he can afford to be a full timer there.
He is most of the time the slowest on the court, no matter whom they play against. You are right, Jung cannot play against two, so sometimes LYD still functions.
Now a days Hendra is definitely the best - you cannot say he is a "net player", basically it is popular to combine an all-around guy together with a back-court guy. Hendra and Cai are both all-around guys, in fact, so is Jung Jae-Sung - what a pity for him, his partner is so weak in the back court (and most of the time too slow in the net, too). In the last decade, Tony is definitely the most "solid" one on the net, partnering with him must be an enjoyment - don't worry about him, he can set up all the things. Sigit is of another style, he is so brilliant, of course sometimes his partner would be in some trouble once he could not "follow" sigit's thought. KDM was a good all-around player, too, though he was sometimes "nervous" during the key time of a match. I will not vote Candra, anyways, he was too lucky as having two greatest partner.
