    D&A badminton shuttlecocks

I just received 6 sample D&A badminton shuttlecocks, one for each grade. They have good price from $10 - $17 per tube (lowest grade to highest grade) and have good flight and durability even for the $10 bird.

Does any one know this brand? Where is it made?

I noticed that the review of Hi-Qua Purple says its quality has declined possibly due to the bird flu...Dink, has this still continued to this day?

Have some someone tried LE Champion?

Have some someone tried LE Champion? Someone recommended it, but not sure which one could be comparable with it.

Also anyone know where to buy it?
    Thanks!

Please change Yang Yang 2000B's review

First, many many thanks to Dink-a-lot's review. It's a hard work to compile such comprehensive list.

Based on my experience with Yang Yang 2000B on 2008, it shouldn't be rated as excellent. We have purchased about 200 tubes early this year, and find the shuttles to be very inconsistent and not durable. The worst part is, even shuttles from the same tube can have very different quality.

From on my experience in 2008, both Hi-Qua blue and Victor Gold are much better than Yang Yang 2000B, and both of them are rated either "average" or "average+". Unless I really have very very bad luck (almost all 200 tubes are bad), I really can't recommend Yang Yang 2000B.

Here is the review for Yang Yang 2000B based on my experience:

    Shuttle Grade: Average
    Flight Accuracy: Average-
    Shuttle Durability: Average-
    Flight Consistency: Average-
    Feather consistency: Average-
    Shuttle Weight: Good
    Impact Feel: Good
    Overall Rating: Average-

For the same money, I'll buy Victor Gold, might be a bit less durable, but overall quality is much better.

BTW, does anyone has experience with Yang Yang 300B/Aeroplane EG1130 in 2008? Which one is better?

    Thanks a lot!!! :)

Are you serious? You want Dink to change HIS review based on YOUR experience? Wouldn't it make more sense to start a "poechen's badminton shuttle review" post instead?

Did you read the top of the review chart?

Disclaimer: of all the reviews I've done, the shuttle review was the hardest. There are many variables that can affect the performance of the shuttle:

    Temperature
    Humidity
    Age of the Shuttle
    Exposure to the Elements
    Feather Consistency from the Factory
    Bad Batch, Good Batch
    Different Grades for Different Countries

Sorry to cause any trouble. I'm definitely not going to start my own shuttle review since I don't have that much experience with so many different kinds of shuttles. :)

These days the price of shuttlecock is going higher and higher, it's great and lucky to have someone like DinkAlot to send time and effort to post a comprehensive list of shuttle review. I was just trying to post my own experience about the shuttles I've used in 2008. Since we all know the QA of the shuttles have been going down for all brands, and it's great that we have a shuttle review as our buyer guide.

Of course, like DinkAlot said, shuttle performance is affected by several variables. But it should still have a basic QA. That's why we have preferences and recommendations.

Like liint points out, I've no right to ask DinkALot to change the review, I was just thinking to give some inputs for the new shuttles in 2008 since the last time DinkAlot reviewed 2000B is a year ago.

I'll try to remove my previous post (I seem to have problem finding the "edit" button) and sorry again for any disturbance.

And again, many many thanks to DinkALot's great review. :)

In 2008, I've tried many of the same shuttles reviewed here and unfortunately most of them are significantly worse than their counterparts from a year ago.

It's so bad, it's not even worth mentioning nor comparing because there is no comparison, shuttles from a year ago or older were simply superior in every aspect.

The 2008 EG1130 is good but nowhere near what it was before. The speed is a bit slow and consistency subpar compared to itself from a year ago.

Here's what I have experienced between shuttles compared to itself from the previous year (2007 vs 2008) in overall quality:

Disclaimer: if you have a current shuttle that performs well, good for you. You either have an old batch or it's a "lucky batch". The shuttles I tested were the most current 2008 batch for the below comparison.

Aeroplane EG1130: slightly less to less
Aeroplane SG1130: slightly less to less
Chao Pai Blue: comparable to slightly less
    Chao Pai Purple: comparable
Chao Pai Red: comparable to slightly less
    Chao Paid Green: comparable
Hi Qua Blue: less to significantly less
Hi Qua Red: less to significantly less
Hi Qua Purple: less to significantly less
OCBC Premium Grade: improved to significantly improved
RSL Classic Tourney: less to significantly less
RSL Tourney # 1: significantly less
RSL Tourney # 4: less to significantly less
RSL Tourney # 5: less to significantly less
Tai Lai 101: less to significantly less
Tai lai 201: less to significantly less
Victor Champion No. 1: less to significantly less
Victor Tourney No. 1: less to significantly less
Yonex AS40: slightly less to less
Yonex AS50: slightly less to less

So with the exception of the CP Purple and Green, just about all the other shuttles are less in overall quality now than from the previous year. The only shuttle that's markedly improved (a pleasant surprise) is the OCBC Premium Grade.

And to top it off, all the shuttles have gone up in price, on average nearly 20%.

This is not good news for feather users. :(

I don't think poechen was wanting dinkalot to change his shuttle review, he was simply commenting on his experiences of the shuttles mentioned.

And Like dink says this is the hardest review to do as unlike rackets & strings, which should be pretty much the same whenever you buy them and wherever you use them, shuttles can vary depending on:

    A) how long they have been stored (i haven't seen s tube which has a "packed date" on them yet)

    B) the climatic conditions when packed

    C) the climatic conditions when used

    D) Batch quality

    E) Natural variability in Material quality

The lower quality of shuttlecocks the market experiences now is a result of branded names overstocking on feathers. The feathers shuttlecocks have 3 major players in the chain, the OEMs which are the brands you see on the tube, the shuttlecock plants, and the geese farming enterprises. Some shuttlecock plants play the feathers market, just like traders who trade in commodities except that shuttlecock plants have to take physical delivery. If they buy too much they either keep them in long storage or they dump them to other shuttlecock manufacturers.
As a consequence of a huge spike in feathers selling a few years back, we are now seeing these old feathers flooding the market. But I am sure the branded names do still keep their top grade at about the same standard as before. The lower grades are getting some of this old 'out-of-date' feathers, and being old they have lost most of their natural oil.

I like to give some tips for you all. This idea is from my friend. If you want your shuttle cock to have more durability just keep them in the refrigerator. It will increase the durability alot I have test it my self and it works!! If will not effect the bird flight also. Have a try!

    ^^The shuttle production..^^

..(in the video) reminds me of a bakery shop, esp. when they showed the shuttles being placed on a movable rack-shelf..:p

Excellent review, Dink-A-Lot. Can I ask you a question? What shuttlecock would you recommend for me?

Budget is not a problem at all; I'd like the best possible shuttlecocks in terms of quality and grade (how good it is in general is the factor).
I live in London in the United Kingdom. I currently use Yonex AreoSensa 50 shuttlecocks, and I find them excellent, but I wonder if there are any ones that are better. That's why I'm asking about that here. Thank you in advance.

    Yours sincerely,
    GameGod

I would stick with the AS50 if price is not a factor.

They consistently have the best flight pattern of any shuttle I've tried. Hard to beat it unless you can get the Yonex F90. But that's overkill in my book and you may not notice a difference. :p

Heck, I would just stick with AS40 if price were no option. Good enough.

based on the pricing these days, basically i would still go for EG1130. it is about SGD25, comapred to AS40 for SGD30~31 or Victor for SGD24~25. but since i bought in bulk, i noticed that almost 1~1.5 shuttles on avg per tube is significantly less durable than the rest.

My group has also switched to EG1130. Basically the best bang for buck of good grade shuttles available today. Each shuttle still almost last 1 full game for us.

Victor Green here has been laden with quality problems for the last couple of years now. The last batch I bought were absolute junk. The only consistency was that they will fall apart quickly. It used to be my go to shuttle just 5 years ago.

AS40 has increased a lot in price and dropped even more in quality -- which is sad because its flight was pretty good. AS50 is totally out of the question here. Outrageously expensive will not last harder 10 rallies.
