Just like to point out with the Uday Pawar interview, there seems to be some misinformation. Seoul was in 1988. Also, I can only find the wikipedia reference for hte results and in that, the Japanese pair are listed 3rd plce.
Yes, Seoul hosted Asian Games in 1986. And the Indian pair was the bronze medalist there... A much bigger and tougher competition than the Olympics Not in the Seoul Olympics 1988 The Seoul Olympics of 88 had badminton as the demonstration game.

The Jwala-Ashwini duo has been the most successful women's doubles team in Indian badminton history, the only Indian pair to win a medal (bronze) at the World Championships, in England in 2011. They had also clinched the women's doubles gold at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. Jwala decided to take a break from badminton after her unsuccessful campaign at the London Olympics last year after which Ashwini played with Pradnya Gadre. When Jwala returned in January 2013, she wanted to partner Ashwini and had even said that she would only concentrate on women's doubles with an eye on the 2016 Olympics. But Ashwini did not evince interest as she had already promised Pradnya that she would play with her till this month's All England Championships. Jwala then wanted to partner Prajakta Sawant. But Sawant did not make it to London for the All England meet due to issues with her visa and Jwala had to make do with playing only in the mixed doubles alongside Valiyaveetil Diju. TOI has learnt on Wednesday that on return from England, Ashwini has written to the Badminton Association of India (BAI), saying that henceforth she intended to partner Pradnya in all tournaments, which in effect rules out the possibility of playing with Jwala again. Ashwini, who is out of country for an international tournament, was not available for comment. But Pradnya was excited to continue her partnership with Ashwini. "Immediately after the All England, Ashwini told me that she would continue with me. I am really excited to play with her, it was a great learning experience," Pradnya said, adding that it is very difficult to replace a player of Jwala's calibre. "Jwala is a good player and it would be difficult for me to fill her boots. But I am confident of doing well with Ashwini," she added. Jwala, who is busy shooting for a Telugu movie, will continue playing with Diju in mixed doubles. The duo will feature in the Asian Championships and then the Indian Open. "Initially, Jwala wanted to play only women's doubles and so I started playing with an Indonesian girl. But Jwala asked me to renew the partnership. I am happy to play with Jwala and hopefully we will continue for a few years," Diju said.
It is already hard enough to perform at this level when one is full time. With all this unwanted disruptions to training due to Jwala's other commitments, I think this is a good move by Ashwini.
You can give your 100 % only when you concentrate on one thing at a time . I hope Aswini understood the current situation of her career and jwala's commitments at the same time . I have no idea whether Pradnya is happy or not, but i am very happy for her decision . Soon, we will be able to see this pair (Aswini and pradnya) moving around the court while Jwala dancing for a duet with Allu Arjun on the sets of film city . In about a week's time, Saina Nehwal and Co will not be able to practice their craft due to lack of 'birds'. The stock of shuttles has whittled down to meagre levels, about 50 barrels at Gopichand Academy. Each barrel has 12 shuttles and quality players need about 12 barrels for training, daily. That apart, there is no stock available anywhere in the country, not even with Yonex. The shuttles that are available in India are imported from China and Hong Kong. But after the outbreak of avian flu in 2007, the Indian government imposed a ban on importing shuttles. The government, however, gave a temporary waiver when India hosted the 2009 World Badminton Championships in Hyderabad, but then issued an order saying that companies exporting shuttles should produce an NOC saying the shuttles meet with stringent testing conditions: feathers treated at 100 degree Centigrade for about 30 minutes. The waiver ended in 2010. Even after the 2010 deadline, a few consignments landed in Hyderabad, but with none coming here in the last few months, the badminton officials had to seek government's intervention. "We only have 50 barrels left with us now and can continue practice for another four days. I don't know what to do after that. We used to get shuttles for our national camps from Sports Authority of India (SAI). But that stopped after October 2012. We managed all these days by procuring shuttles from Yonex and they don't have the stock now," Pullela Gopichand, chief coach of the Indian badminton team, told TOI on Friday. Badminton Association of India (BAI) president Akilesh Das Gupta met sports minister Jitendra Singh earlier this week. On Thursday morning, BAI officials also met the Animal Husbandry Ministry and pleaded their case. "Our president is making all efforts to extend the reprieve for one more year. The Sports Minister and Animal Husbandry Ministry have reacted positively and by Monday we are hopeful of getting a letter in this regard," said TPS Puri, vice-president, BAI. It is easier said than done, though. Even if the letter is issued next week, it will take at least a fortnight to get things on track as obtaining NOC is not easy. With the next big assignment - Indian Open beginning in Delhi on April 23 - the players, who were assured the issue would be sorted by the time they return from European circuit, hope they will not have to twiddle their thumbs for no fault of theirs.

The seven-day course encompasses various aspects of badminton coaching with an introductory lecture by Badminton World Federation technical expert, Venugopal Mahalingam. The 35 coaches will also be exposed to intricacies of sport medicine, sports nutrition, sports psychology and conditioning. Sessions on technical aspects will be administered by Mahalingam, chief national coach Pullela Gopi Chand, Indonesian coach Edwin Iriawan and other senior Indian coaches.

It’s worth recalling that the Thomas Cup (world men’s team championship) was started in 1948-49, while the Uber Cup (world women’s team championships) was started in 1956-57 – both are the oldest and the most prestigious international tournaments staged by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). In a significant first, the Thomas Cup and the Uber Cup tourneys would be played in a new format from 2014 onwards. The BWF decided to eliminate the earlier way of holding preliminaries –continental preliminaries were held across different places and 12 teams made it to the final. The New Delhi edition would only feature finals with 16 countries taking part. 14 teams will make the cut on the basis of their world rankings and they will be joined by the defending champions and the hosts. These tournaments would witness a minimum of three teams from Asia, three from Europe and the highest ranked teams from Pan America, Africa and Oceania Continental Confederations. Really good news for India. This competition need to be rotated across different regions outside east and SE Asia. India should be a real threat for at least a semifinal slot in TC judging by their men singles' strength. I fancy them sweeping all singles matches against Korea, Denmark and Indonesia. Maybe not Malaysia especially with DAtuk still around. I wish they have a good 3rd singles and better WD for uber cup. Potential finalist.
