National singles squad to be trimmed

Agnes Winarti, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Thu, 08/18/2011 7:00 AM

After the latest bleak performance by the singles’ players at the BWF World Championships, the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) intends to trim down the number of shuttlers in the national singles squad to make room for short-listed doubles newcomers.

“Hopefully, by next week we will have completed reducing the singles squad to make room for the doubles newcomers,” said PBSI deputy chairman, I Made Gusti Oka, on Wednesday, on the sidelines of the country’s 66th Independence Day ceremony at the national badminton training camp in Cipayung, East Jakarta.

“The more singles shuttlers dismissed, the more doubles newcomers we can accommodate. We will invite these doubles players to undergo two weeks of trial trainings for selection,” said Oka, adding that the PBSI would maintain an overall squad of 64 shuttlers at the camp. Reductions will be made from the 28 singles shuttlers among those 64-player.

Oka declined to reveal who and how many shuttlers would be affected by this decision. However, previously, national mixed doubles coach Richard Mainaky praised the young pair from the Djarum Club, Lukhi Apri Nugroho and Ririn Amelia, who won the Asian junior titles at the recent Asian Under-19 Championships in India. They are considered to be possible doubles candidates.

HUT RI ke-66, all the best for our country :)

Hopefully the gold tradition is still continued at London 2012 and it would be big gift for 67th RI's Independence Day next year :)

Shuttlers Get More Time to Impress Before SEA Games

    Ami Afriatni | August 31, 2011

National shuttlers have more work ahead of them to make it into the Southeast Asian Games squad.

The Indonesia Gold Program (Prima), which oversees training camps for of the Games, has extended the deadline for national sports federations to submit their entry forms from the end of this month to the end of September.

For the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), that means more time to oversee shuttlers’ progress.

“There is plenty of time for us to carefully select the candidates. We will see their progress in several upcoming tournaments before deciding who will be selected for the final squad,” team manager Maria Fransisca said.

Shuttlers Continue Scramble for SEA Games Spots in Taiwan
    Ami Afriatni
    | September 07, 2011

    http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/spor...scramble-for-sea-games-spots-in-taiwan/463983

With places in Indonesia’s Southeast Asian Games team still hanging in the balance, Sony Dwi Kuncoro needs every win he can get.

Sony, struggling to return to top form after a back injury, kept pressing his case for inclusion on Wednesday in the first round of the Taiwan Open Grand Prix Gold. He eased to a 21-9, 21-11 win over Taian’s Husan Lin-chia.

“I think I’m getting comfortable with my body and my game. I’m beginning to be back at my best,” Sony told the Indonesian Badminton Association’s (PBSI) Web site. “I just have to maintain my fitness by stretching properly before each game.”

Sony will face No. 4 seed Hu Yun of Hong Kong or Taiwan Tsai Meng-jui in the second round.

Another shuttler chasing a men’s singles berth is youngster Shesar Hiren Rustavito, who beat Chiang Jiann-Shiarng 21-12, 21-19. Shesar, 18, faces a tough second-round test against compatriot Simon Santoso. The No. 5 seed won 21-18, 21-18 over Hong Kong’s Chan Yun Lung.

“I just want to do my best here and not think about whether I’ll make it to the SEA Games team or not. I hope I will [be in the team], but that’s the PBSI’s decision,” Shesar said.

Eighth-seeded Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka failed to advance, though, losing to unseeded Muhammad Hafiz Hashim of Malaysia 21-15, 21-15.

The result could put his place in the SEA Games squad in doubt. Hayom has failed to advance out of the first round in his last four tournaments.

Last month, the PBSI announced its provisional squad for the SEA Games. The men’s singles section saw five shuttlers competing for four places on the squad that will compete in November’s regional games.

World No. 5 Taufik Hidayat and Simon almost assured of their places in the national team. That leaves Sony, Hayom and Shesar fighting for the final two spots.

In mixed doubles, top-seeded Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir endured a tough opening match before winning 15-21, 21-13, 21-16 over Yoo Yeon-seong and Jang Ye-na of South Korea.

Maria Febe Kusumastuti beat American Iris Wang 21-10, 21-12 in women’s singles, but Adriyanti Firdasari fell to No. 6 seed Tai Tzu-ying of Taiwan 21-14, 21-17.

That's the problem some Indonesian players fail to do before a match - proper warm up plus stretching . Poor flexibility no good, just like worn out tire :D skid here and there :p end up with injury .

    Greysia injury

    taken from http://www.pb-pbsi.org/app/information/newsDetail.aspx?/408
    with Google Translation (edited slightly)

The fall in the final round Taipei Grand Prix Gold Open 2011 last week, Greysia Polii suffered an injury to his right arm. After conducting tests MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) discovered the existence of a torn muscle.

This was disclosed her coach, Paul, who was encountered in the middle of training in Cipayung national training.

"There was a torn muscle, you could say quite seriously, too. However Greysia has got treatment from a doctor and under conditions of recovery, "said Paul.

He also explained that the long recovery time depends on the seriousness of the injury and treatment. According to Paul, the injury suffered by their students can be quite serious, but if you look at its development a few days later, he was optimistic Greysia will quickly recover. Meanwhile Greysia plans to consult with the doctor tomorrow regarding the development of the condition of her injury.

"The hand should be rested Greysia total. But her physical condition is no problem, so Greysia physical exercise remains to this day "adds Paul.

Jauhari Meiliana Greysia with her partner plan to travel to Japan this week to attend the Japan Open tournament Superseries 2011. When it is confirmed whether Greysia will continue to follow the tournament, Paul said he would see the condition of Greysia until tomorrow.

"To this day Greysia / Meli is still listed as a participant in the Japan Open, and the plan is still to come. But we'll look back condition through Friday and after consultation with the doctor, hopefully getting better, "said Paul.

Indonesia’s Ranks Thin Quickly at Japan Open
    Sandy Pramuji | September 22, 2011

    http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/sports/indonesias-ranks-thin-quickly-at-japan-open/467103

    Excerpts:

Men’s doubles is Indonesia’s best bet for a title at the Japan Open Super Series as only one other shuttler made the quarterfinals.

...Alvent and Hendra face a tough quarterfinal against top-seeded Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng of China, while Markis and Hendra take on Korean qualifiers Ko Sung-hyun and Lee Yong-dae.

Simon Santoso is the only other Indonesian left in the tournament. His 22-20, 21-16 win over India’s Ajay Jayaram set up a quarterfinal against No. 3 seed Peter Gade of Denmark.
