It all depends what you are looking for. At 27lbs playability will be better than at 25lbs, so there is no contest from day one. If playability is most important to you, then the period when notching starts is academic.
all strings move when new, thinner ones more especially zymax 0.62 and such movement of string depends on how you hit the bird, flat most of the time or sometime with a bit of slice. replacing your string when it stops moving? i think not necessary unless its quite long, say a month onwards or several sessions for fine strings like 0.62-0.66 or when you get that 'dead feel' just to illustrate: i have a spare racket for heavy feeding and i am very sure the string tension has zero elasticity, no more resilience, dead like a duck but main string still moves! cheers
ok. i played a few hard doubles games with the ZM65@27lbs on my ARC10. i have yet experience something so powerful. the sound and the power when correctly executed exceeds beyond ZM62@27lbs. one has to work on it to get the power out of the string, but when properly executed, the string will reward you back with every ounce that you put it. it felt really really good. i have never felt something as powerful as this string on my ARC10 yet.
If you think ZM62 and ZM65 are powerful, try ZM70 at 28-31lbs. It's even more powerful*. It's just not as crisp as ZM62. *Assuming you can flex the string, optimally .
Before anybody gets too carried away let me remind you that AOTBE thinner strings are more repulsive than thicker strings, not the other way around.
True, but when you stretch the thin string to near its limits (as they are doing with ZM62 at 27-28lbs.), there's minimal rebound/flex/repulsion. With ZM70 there more "give" even at 33lbs. Anyway, those are Panda's informal findings. Strung up 5 comparable rackets at 27lbs. with ZM62 and another 5 comparable rackets with ZM70 at 30lbs. All five ZM70 rackets hit harder. Not only did Panda feel the ZM70 rackets hit harder, more telling, three different people returning the smashes agreed the ZM70 strung rackets consistently hit harder while the ZM62 rackets sounded great but there was not as much power/velocity. Now if Panda were to strung the same rackets with ZM62 at 25lbs., it might be a different story...might be a test to try one day...
Depends. You get the most power from a string when you find its maximum repulsion limit (MRL), where the string generates the most trampoline effect, usually consistently, not just for 10 shots. If you go beyond the max repulsion limit, the string will feel dead. Each person's max repulsion limit is different and may change from racket to racket. For instance (and a good guideline), using an AT900T with BG65: A beginner's MRL is 22lbs. An intermediate player's MRL is 25lbs. An advanced player's MRL is 28lbs. A professional player's MRL is 31bs. A player may string a bit higher to get a more stiff feeling string bed or a bit lower to get a softer feel; that's personal preference. Why does the MRL increase? Because each level is more advanced than the next and we're assuming the higher the level, the harder the player can hit, thus being able to generate more power which allows the string bed to me optimally flexed at a higher tension.
Thanks for the info. I have to say I'm on the intermediate level. What do you think is a good MRL for the Precision with ZM70? I might have to string at that MRL when my current string breaks.
I'm getting some sets of ZM62 in the mail next week or so, I would like to ask is there a maximum tension for ZM62? I'm afraid 0.62mm might snap while still in my machine. I normally string bg80@13kgs (28,6lbs) I was thinking ZM62@ 26-27lbs or so, looking forward to it
well As far as I as aware, Kwun has strung at 27lbs on his new Spira 21, with ZM62 and it has broken each time within 10mins. So I think 26-27lbs is too high unless you have deep pockets. Maybe 24lbs, but then thats quite a bit down from your usual tension.
hm... but i have done the same with my ARC10 and others and they all last for weeks. so the Spira21 might just be a special case. i keep mishitting with it. 27lbs was from recommendation of Dink and it does feel pretty good. i have some at 26lbs and it is also quite close. maybe a better idea if you want to have a bit more longevity.
I just have 10 sets to test it out, I very much doubt I'll make it my standard string. I just don't like the idea of stringing 4-5 rackets a week for myself I'll just start at 27 and see how it goes, thanks guys!
ZM62 at 27 is like playing BG65 at 30-31. If you do not mishit, ZM62 is quite durable. But if you mishit, it goes pretty fast. So it just depends on you.
*fingers crossed, taps wood*, I haven't broken bg80 or bg66 on a mishit this season, but I know I'm just jinxing myself here It's just 10 sets, I figured I might as well order some while I was ordering racket-expert-grips. ZM62@27 is like bg65@30-31, sounds about right, though I'm just not a fan of bg65, but now I'm getting anxious
O did you order from Eric? He sells zymax strings too? 3 sets of Zymax 62 at 27lbs lasted me for about a month with only one set breaking.
