    Ouch!!!!

I'm cringing just from listening to everybody's injury list...
Hope you all get well soon or at least change to a safer sport like croquet or marbles. ;)

    Personally:

    1. injured my rotator cuff when i was young with bad technique. Noise when rotating arm but not painful or restrictive anymore.

    2. Shin splints from playing too much and on too hard surfaces like cement.
(I would love to play regularly on the surface the pros use)

    3. Over extended left knee ligament. Fixed with physiotherapy and nothing as bad as 2 ACLs for you Bonchu... OUCH!

    4. Tennis (badminton) elbow. Trying to smash too hard for too long when I'm too old and too unfit now..

    5. Back pain for a whole month when I couldn't even stand straight. Forgot to stretch/warm up before playing.

I found warming up and stretching before EVERY SESSION, helps with recovery and avoiding injuries in the first place.

yeah... i've played senior league since i was 16 (11 seasons ago).

as i improved i moved up and never really got fit enough for the level i was at.. so got injured...

some seasons tho i'd play two or three different league competitions :D so i'd be playing 4/5 times a week. the body just can't take that sort of punishment - especially without conditioning :D

i have been reliably told that warming down is just as, if not more, important than warming up. somehow it helps your muscles to relax and ... oh i don't know, it's just good for you. not that i ever really follow the advice though, bad boy!

warming up and down are both important - i've always found that warming down prevents me from feeling sore the next day...

Mostly-detached labrum (cartilage flange in the shoulder); still recovering from the surgery that fixed it back in place (I'm starting weight training now).

    Sprained ankle (twice, same ankle).

Patello-femoral pain syndrome ("runners' knee" in the US) = knee pains.

    Occasional shin splints.

    good for us

lucky that you didn't have ACL. it's amazing how everyone of us (some even with major injuries) hasn't quite badminton yet.... bravo.. (although i sometimes feel that i will be on a wheelchair before its time..but then, i'll deal with it when it comes :D). just can't quit badminton now.

Occasionally I come off with a broken ego when I loose... :D
Seriously, I had sprain ankle once... and cronically, after playing, the left side of my neck (I'm right-hander) hurts like some kind of "hexenschuss" if you know this expression... Does anyone have this kind of problem?

    Hexenschuss? Lumbargo?? Whiplash??

An old friend back in Malaysia stressed that he ALWAYS stretched his neck muscles before playing because whiplash was his biggest gripe in badminton.

I've never had this problem personally because I have never had the habit of turning or whipping my head around when playing badminton.
You would probably do this when playing doubles and want to see what your partner is doing.
BUT, after being hit once near the eye when my partner accidentily framed the shuttle at me, I swore I would never look back at my partner and just trust their shot.
Back of the head is not as painful as in the eye, although I think a couple of people in the thread has had it in the eye from the front.... OUCH!
And yes, I've considered goggles, but you look awfully stupid and can't use your peripheral vision.

    "tennis" elbow
    sprained ankle
    sprained lower back
    sprained shoulder
    neck & shoulder pain
    sore achilles tendon

But then again, I am 36 years old, so these injuries are kind of normal!!!!

You could find lots of that stuff browsing the internet or asking a coach or physio because it would be easier to explain in pictures or demonstrating rather than typing it all.

heres one link to a couple of pics.

Stretch the legs, back, rump, neck and arms. Basically everything... ;)

Ouch. I tried doing a high serve between my legs, and oh man.. I hit the wrong birdie.

Other than those rare happenings, I am currently having a very sore pain in my lower-back, because of all the lunging and all that I have to do during my badminton training. I've had this pain for three weeks already.

Got hit in the head when walking too close behind a court! And a sore wrist when I didn't quite know how to backhand properly. But nothing too serious yet!
