Ow.. Markus is son of Kurniahu?
Hmm.. his former partner : Agripina Prima Rahmanto Pamungkas is son of other successful MD coach: Sigit Pamungkas. Sigit was coach of Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan.
Agripina is known as very talented player which touted to be similar style like Sigit Budiarto.
While Markus is known only as hardworking player, nothing more than that.
I'm wondering now.. any rivalry between those great coaches with current INA MD coach (Herry IP)?
I (with limited knowledge as fans), sensed that Agripina (and also Markus) was not being prioritized. Even now Agripina is paired with other mediocre partner: Hardianto.

Agripinna Prima pretty much has a limited future if he stays in Pelatnas. It's better for him to leave and become independent. But finding a suitable partner is going to be very difficult.

As for Markus, since when he join Jaya Raya? I notice that his shirt during the Final of the French SS was a Jaya Raya shirt?

In terms of coaching, Sigit Pamungkas is only "famous" because he brought Kido/Hendra to win the Olympics Gold and later on the Asian Games Gold. Not that before 2007, Kido/Hendra were coached by Herry IP.

Sigit didn't really groom another successful pair during his reign at Pelatnas.

    Thanks badMania for some clarifications.
As for Agripinna, I think he need to add some muscle and maybe some more speed.
Sigit Budiarto while was very stylist player, did have decent smashes which made him successful with Candra Wijaya. Same case with Hendra who is similar in deceptive skills, do have powerful smash.
Agripinna then should be paired with partner with a really big smasher. Else, he will never be successful in term of achievements.
If he continues like this, he probably will be only known as talented, nothing more.
While Markus, despite of his limited talent, his hardworking and full-spirited style seemed meet the chemistry and wake Markis Kido.

I believe that hardwork will result in better achievement than talent.

Let's see how far will Gideon achieve in future

Even if Markus ends up with no other SS title apart from the French SS title, he should be proud of his achievement as even senior players like Hendra AG, his current coach (Joko Riyadi) and Alvent Yulianto Chandra fail to win a SS title in their career.

I think it's a smart move by Kido to partner Markus (despite Markus's limited talent). He needs a younger partner that will do the hard work of covering the courts and smashing from the back. You can see Kido being more effective with his smart placing and chops in front of the net. He also tends to make less errors this way and is generally less emotional than before.

Watching Kido/Markus playing in the French SS seems to be a lot more fun than watching Hendra/Ahsan's matches lately. Esp with Markus flying all around the court and there was one exciting long rally in the Final against Koo/Tan that involved both of them blasting away at Koo/Tan and that drew the applause from the crowd.

I don't know why but Hendra/Ahsan's style is getting to be a little stale and boring to watch by now. Not much excitement even in the MD World Championships Final match, compared to the high-intensity of the XD match involving Owi/Butet and Xu/Ma.

^ You mean Ahsan/Setiawan is boring to watch because they dispatch their opponents too effectively without much of a fight from their opponents?

Yes I completely agree that in the end hardwork will win over talent.
    Examples:
    Gideon beat Agri
    and
    Tomy beat Hayom
Talent follow with hardwork will be perfect. INA has many talents but sadly not many become perfect with hardwork.
Perfect example of INA player who can combine talent and hardwork is Great Susi Susanti.

Yeah i agree on this. With gideon now kido can have more freedom to play from the back to the front comfortably. Therefore kido can safe some energy (wihich is plus point considering his weaker stamina).

Although i am not sure that kido/gideon will surpass ahsan/hendra, i am quite optimistic that this pair has a chance to become 2nd INA MD pair considering that both gideon and kido mentally stronger than any other INA MD pair.

Btw, it must be interesting to watch kido in the front with gideon face hendra in the front and ahsan :)

As much as I'm happy for them, I also have my fear.

Why? Because I found similar hype in Angga/Ryan and LYD/KSH thread.
    First phase: shocking performance.
Second phase: golden era, everyone jumps into bandwagon.
Third phase: opponents figure how to counter their play, shock value no longer there, disappointing results, which ultimately lead into the magical word: SPLIT!!!

Also French SS has been quite kind toward underdogs.
So... well, hope they won't followboth threads' fate.

Another example of talent meets hardwork is Hendra and Liliyana.

kido/gideon is independent pair. Unless they rejoin pelatnas, they won't be able to play in Thomas Cup or Asian Games unless Pelatnas plead them to.

Yeah, more than a few INA players I've noticed tend to lift their shuttle hand at the very last moment as they serve, bordering on questionable. Like Fernaldi, Ahsan, Polii.

May his Soul Rest In Peace.

I was in the stadium watching him play. He was 2 metres away from me.

    A great badminton player.
