Just got back from watching the Tanongsak vs Derek Wong match.Tanongsak wasn't motivated to play well and lived dangerously to beat Derek in 3 games.Derek played well but it was not enough. In the decider, there was a poor line call at 14/13 and Tanongsak protested. Since the umpire could not overrule,Tns. requested the referee for a change of linesman. This was turned down and proved a turning point. From then on, some of the Spore crowd got behind Tns. and applauded every of his winning points. The last rally was TNS at his most motivated. He defended successively three times in a row and placed a beautiful, cross court drop to clinch the match. What SBA officials must remember is that some of the Spore crowd will not tolerate any unfair advantage towards home players and will get behind the non-Spore opponent to tell SBA so. For a 17 years old, Tanongsak moves with an air of striking confidence. He looks like a future WR1 five years down the road. Has there ever been a Thai MS WR1 before? It'll be great for badminton if Tanongsak lives up to his potential.
errm... how come all the remaining players from Singapore have foreign-sounding names? (my bad...) But looking at the scoreline, Derek did well and his name sounded really Singaporean.
No. A short reply: Foreign Imports! (PS: Good to know hcyong can still find some time to read BC forum)
I think he's Singaporean. The line judging for this tournament have been poor so far imho. Why are there only two linemen, one on each side.
U must be kidding me... two linemen only? I tot Asia Satellite is an International tourney? pls... dun be another "KOR" or "CHN"
Tonight's semi-finals start at 7pm. http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=21653&y=2008&m=5&d=23 Its Korea vs Thailand in both MS semi-finals. Thailand is assured of one finalist in the WS as three Thai girls made it to the semi-finals of the WS. See you guys there!
I believe the poor calls were made due to vision problems (aggravated by less than ideal lighting) rather than on purpose like CO and KO.Tanongsak was bothered because that was the second poor call from the same linesman.
Aiyo ...SSP players are all lousy ... they train like other normal schools ..and even get beaten by other normal school what .... SBA players are different ...more professional .... SSP players like masak masak ...Singapore wasted a lot of $$$$ on the Sports School kids ...should give to the national team ..I think they will do better .
Not surprised. Ahn was impressive in his QF dispatch of Kashyap who was coachless(but would still have lost with a coach around except less badly). Ahn has a similar build like PSH but smaller version.
Tieke was the finalist at the 2007 Junior National Championship in December 2007. She was a member of PB. Djarum until that time, but now have moved to PB. Suryanaga Surabaya...
Well, out of 3 representatives in final, INA only managed to get one title. Linnga Lie/Fernando Kurniawan beat SIN pair, Danny Bawa/Chayut Triyachart (INA/THA?) in rubber set, 21-12 17-21 21-19. I believe they've won 2 consecutive titles. Congrats, then!
I was late for the finals and missed the XD and WS matches. Managed to catch the MS, WD and MD. My friend aka Mr. Scanner was anticipating a very exciting MS final showdown between 'kimchi' vs 'tom yam kung'. Thailand's Pakkawat Vilailak had performed superbly in the semifinals and it was a pity he 'choked' in the finals and made lots of unforced errors. Had expected a win for Indo WD pair but Permatasari was under heavy attack by the Singapore pair in the second and rubber game. Fernando/Lingga of Indonesia had good understanding of their partner's game and covered each other very well in the MD finals.
Yao Lei/Shinta Mulia Sari have been a threat to INA WD pairs increasingly. Remember, they beat Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nursugianti in the India Open recently. Now, they went on to beat Yulianti/Nathalia Poluakan and Nadya Melati/Devi Tika Permatasari in the Asian Satellite Final to clinch the title. It's the Eng Hian effect I guess??
