Well now China lost 2 key players due to knee injury.. earlier it was Lin Wang now its Xin Wang. Both of them used to beat Saina!!! now there are only 2 left who can beat her, Yihan and XR Li.
LW and XW got injured in similar angle while they tried to hit the shuttle with jump at rear.
One needs to have really really really strong muscles on their Knees to avoid this kind of Injuries.
Once you get injured that toooo on Knee their career is over!!! see Lin Wang who came back after year and she can hardly move on the court as compared to past..

It's alright, China has so many players ready to fill their spots. Thats the sad truth of it.

What the heck does an umpire have to do with an injury? This isn't boxing. Unless the player is bleeding profusely, the umpire has no right to prevent the player from continuing. The player's well-being is their own responsibility.

i think the argument is that the umpire refused WX's request to have the floor wiped, and thus resulting in WX's injury.

i have yet to review the video to see if that's indeed what caused her injury.

This is what I saw while watching it. Wang Xin asked for the floor to be mopped and the Umpire refused. Whether or not she slipped on the same spot she wanted mopped I don't know.

But the Umpire should have let the floor be mopped. That is a concern to player safety and shouldn't have been risked in the first place.

Wang Xin rightfully should have been the Bronze Medalist, but unfortunately she is not.

Fans can be plain stupid or annoying or selfish at times. They think they paid $$$, and every game has to be a 5-hr nail bitter, favorit team/player always need to be the winner, etc.

I guess sitting on a comfortable seat, with popcorn and beer in hand, yelling and screaming blindly regardless the situation is a bit easier than years of tears and sweat.

    Welcome to the real world.

Here's the video clip (2+ minutes only). She was injured when the score was 20 - 17, and she's playing the next point.

Unable to locate above news link in Hindustan Times site only found this one sourced from "Press Trust of India, PTI":
    http://www.hindustantimes.com/Punja...na-an-Olympics-bronze/SP-Article1-908267.aspx

which is just a very normal and correct reporting!

Btw, any time you read ANY news in any mass media or online site, remember to pay attention to the quoted SOURCE of the news (the most dominating sources are REUTERS; AFP; AP; and few others) because the NEWS CLIENTS: the printed newspapers and online sites, which subscribe to the news output by those news aggregators just have choice to EITHER carry on such news IN FULL OR abandon it.

They are NOT allowed to edit any of its substances even though the newspaper's editors may not totally agree with all of its content!!!

btw, WX did asked for the slippery floor to be wiped a few times prior to that and was refused by the umpire.

Can't understand at all why badminton so obsessed to keep the game flowing!

It sounds like the decision makers at the Sport Federation comprises mostly of bureaucrats... it is NOT the EX-badminton players who are at the helm of those match regulations... therefore they are unable to grasp in its entirety the matters experienced by an athlete on the court!!

Moreover the organization may be succumbing too much to the dictate of the commercialization aspects (advertisement slot time, TV airtime, fixed limited time allocation for one match, etc).

Just try to put a magnifying glass to see through inside...

How XW tied her Knee with bandage after Injure, its highly recommended to tie down ones Knee and Ankles with those tight bandages to avoid or reduce the damage in case one slips or a misstep.

I watched the NBC stream VOD of the game and didn't notice anything like that. There was one point at 14-20 where Wang Xin lost the point on a slip while trying to move up to a drop to her backhand from the middle, but that area was mopped immediately after the point.

And the point where she was injured (at 17-20), it was on a deep clear to her backhand side and not where she slipped 3 points earlier. And it didn't look like her take-off foot slipped either.

The world is becoming too ugly with all these booing and cold-hearted umpire/fans!!! Where are their basic humanity?
