After the CHN Masters GPG this week, Lin Dan will next play at the Badminton Asia Championships'14 on 22-27th this month at Gimcheon,Korea - as reported http://sports.qq.com/a/20140414/014016.htm

However, due to the new BAC ruling limiting 4 participants per nation based on BWF World Ranking, CHN has to sacrifice Chen Long, Du Pengyu and Wang Zhengming by withdrawing them in order to make way for Lin Dan's participation. The three aforementioned withdrawals will also subject CBA to penalties (USD2K each). Besides Lin Dan, the other three teammates accompanying him are Tian Houwei, Xue Song and Guo Kai.

Incidentally, LCW is giving the BAC a miss and MAS will be represented by Chong Wei Feng, Darren Liew and Goh Soon Huat. Likewise, the USD2K penalty will be imposed on LCW.

Why do they need to pull 3 players to make room for one? Something doesn't add up here... Are there anywhere the rules could be read?

The BAC'14 website http://badmintonasia.org/events/2014-calendar/april/asia-championship/ --- take a look at the file "Eligible Players - Phase 1(v3)" as well as the "BAC'14 - Draft Prospectus 12032014.doc" containing the 9.Eligibility and 10.Regulations.

From the list, MAS can send the 4th participant Misbun Ramdan who is in the eligible list highlighted in yellow background or replace him with someone in the reserve list in blue background. Notice that Goh Soon Huat is from the reserve list. No idea why BAM didn't send the max 4 (or maybe they did but the author of the Chinese article wasn't aware of it).

In CHN's case, the 4 eligible MS players are 1. Chen Long, 2. Wang Zhengming, 2. Du Pengyu, and 4. Tian Houwei from which CHN dropped the first 3 while retaining THW and replaced them with Lin Dan, Xue Song and Guo Kai.

My guess is that CBA rested CL, WZM and DuPY to prepare for the Thomas Cup next month and fielded Lin Dan for tournament practice, to hone his skills and regain his competitive edge as much as possible, also as part of preparation for the TC; him competing in just one CHN Masters GPG event is not quite enough to gauge his combat readiness.

And show that he is actively working towards WC in 4 months from now. If he hopes to get a wildcard he must get of the couch and into some tournaments.

Will China Masters be streamed (to Europe) somehow?

Yes, BWF will be streaming it on their Youtube channels. They have actually scheduled the SFs and Fs already. At first I was worried that they would choose to stream the New Zealand Open instead of China Master since the number of players participate in the New Zealand Open is far larger than in the China Master.

Everyone will keep an eagle eye on LD's racket at China Masters.

It may be a good thing that is a Bonny tournament so not to rub it in Li-Ning's face. Should the rumour come true that is.

Don't players already have to wear their team uniform during team events? Would be interesting to see how the Indonesian team dresses up with Yonex, Flypower, Astec, Li-Ning and Victor all there.

Indonesia is different because the players have individual contracts. I don't think they have a team equipment sponsor (that I am aware of). So no conflicts, when INA players go into team matches. Just make sure their flag is on the clothes :) Yes, you have a point there won't be a standardised 'uniform'.

With China, they have a team contract with Li Ning. It's going to be interesting to see their solution.

He looks as fit as he was, if not fitter!
And no sign of Adidas yet (although the racquet doesn't appear to be a Li Ning model)!
