From the little I saw of her finals game, LXR's tactical nous was just atrocious! She should be made to stand in the corner for an hour without any porridge, and then to write on the blackboard 400 times: "I will never engage a physically stronger and taller player from China -and my sparring partner no less- in a slugfest."

That being said, WYH played to a plan, and reaped the rewards.

Can people frequent this thread tell me if this video (2012 China Open WS Final) had been discussed?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aafLgiq9ZJo

In this tournament, it seemed everyone Li played with lost big time, as though they all didn't know how to play. Was it because she's that much better, or everyone worried too much about her being newly minted Olympic Gold Medalist?

Li Xuerui, you are the hero today, saving Team China from the brink of defeat in the Sudirman Cup '13 QF tie with INA when 1-2 down after losing the 1st XD match and the 3rd MD match. In a must-win situation in a team event, probably the first such experience in your relatively young career, you held your nerves, was supremely confident once you settled in rather quickly and emerged triumphant in your two straight-game disposal of your INA opponent, Lindaweni Fanetri, 21-16 and 21-13.

Yes, you simply passed the test in flying colours by displaying self-mastery in a pressure-cooker situation to make it 2-2 for CHN who went on to win the tie 3-2 by taking the last WD match. I'm sure it's a big boost to your self-confidence and inner belief that will propel you to greater heights going forward. Well done. Keep it up !

Well, Li Xuerui, I felt there's no need to congratulate you each time you win a title because you've done it so many times and most likely will continue to do so well into the future. So,instead, today I want to congratulate you on how you won it, the way you played against Juliane Schenk in the Indonesian Open'13 PSS Final. Simply put,it was a magnificent match, a master class display by both you and your most worthy opponent.

At first I thought your form from the beginning of this tournament wasn't too good after the high of the Sudirman Cup where you're in excellent shape and commanding control. So it was,to me,a pleasant surprise to see your impressive performance yesterday against Yip Pui Yin who was resurgent and playing her best attacking badminton which I haven't seen her done so in years, esp noteworthy was her cracking jump-smashes.

Then came today's even more breathtaking, scintillating attacking badminton put on by both you and Juliane who herself happened to be the hardest hitter among the ladies in this tournament with a smash record of 231 km/h. Not only that, both of you possess the attacking and retrieving abilities that were amazing and delightful to watch.

I must say that you and both Yip PY and Juliane all play such a physical game, the sort of power play that almost resembles Men's Singles, awesome. In fact, nowadays it has become a phenomenon that more and more WS aspiring to the top are playing like the MS, practically driven by necessity as the game evolves. But,happily, you still have the grace and elegance as our administrator, kwun, has rightly pointed out in describing your style of play and that,to me,is awe-inspiring - a style that is at once powerful and beautiful. May your prowess become greater as time goes by as I believe it would with your enormous potential.

LXR has become a more complete player with various weapons. She is a very calm and smart player like Lin Dan. There is no doubt that she will get better and better as she is only 22 years old. It will be very useful that she could learn how to prevent injury from LD as well. Although there are many tough opponents around, I think she will stay on the top for some time.

LD's secret to preventing injuries are these:

    (1) Play less tournaments
    (2) Go easy against your own teammates
    (3) develop physical strengths and fitness
    (4) Cultivate mental calmness and toughness
    (5) Know the right techniques

That's the Silken Assassin at work!

If she just makes sure she maintains good health and remains injury-free, she will be known for a long time as the Roger Federer of WS badminton. She's definitely headed in that direction.

She is already making the transition from a champion player to a legend-in-the-making. Maybe she is still unaware of it, but her playing style is becoming so complete, she is now adding the most intimidating weapon to her arsenal -taking on her toughest opponents by outplaying them in their own preferred style. Roger Federer at his peak was so versatile he did this with immense success and utterly demolished his opponents, morally. LXR showed shades of this, in her finals match against Juliane Schenk.

At age 22, LXR has a pretty decent report card to show for her efforts. ;)

    hahaa.... :D

Anyhow, I don't think LD cares much about his opponents. He plays pretty much his own style regardless of his opponents' strengths and weaknesses!!!

XXZ, on the other hand, advocates the opposite, especially against INA players.

We will see how Chen Jin will change LXR and other WS players. It will be interesting.
