I can't really answer your question, not directly anyway since I have no idea. I'll start with my standard tension (currently 27lbs) like the rest of my rackets and adjust from there. Much stiffer rackets tend to require less tension but other factors like string density contribute too. E.g. my tc700 has 23 crosses across the same area resulting in a tighter stringbed compared to the ArcZ. I'm avoiding the vt80 because I cannot play with any rackets that are too head heavy -- I'm weak. In fact, the entire armotec series is out of my league. For the Mx80, even though I'll likely be comfortable with 28lbs, I'm sticking with 27lbs since it's my "warm up" racket before I graduate back to the tc700. Not tempted by isBen unless he passes me his mx80 .
Maklike - you will have to let me know how you get on. The reason I havent bought one is that demon of yours has also been on my shoulder - all my rackets are currently medium flex. I currently use the BS12 and 09 and have a TW coded BS10 on the way which shoud sit someone between the 09 and a MX80 in terms of stiffness.
Yeah Ben, I pretty much just caved because I sold off all the rackets that were gathering dust in my bag and had some spare coins. In all honesty, I'm pretty happy with being able to seamlessly switch between my BS10 and 12, depending on what sort of night I'm having. So we'll see. I have got the MX80 strung pretty low to begin with (25x23lbs) so hopefully that will compensate for the extra stiffness and 80 strings. If not......bring on the MX70! Probably be Monday before my package lands so I'll post up a mini-review Tues or Weds.
That is my plan - bring on august! Just heard so many great reviews about the MX80 my fingers are getting itchy!
MX80 was priced for RMB954 at bbesport Beijing. Comes free with very nice looking bag. really tempted to buy it as additional Victor lines to my BS11, SP21, & The Legend.
I pass it to Darren and you could test it out. I can pass you the VT80 that is strung likewise for comparison ya.
Wouldnt MX80 and MX70 be different ? As MX70 is more balance and medium flex according to rumours ? ( Or is there a confirmed spec already ? ) . What tension would be good for an intermediate like me ? Was thinking 24 ( main ) X 26 ( cross ) . But i saw maklike stated his tension was 25 X 23 ? May I know whats the difference between higher tension for main and cross ? Thanks
My understanding is that depending on the stringing pattern, you thread the mains first, and then the act of weaving the crosses through the mains and then tensioning puts extra pressure on the mains. This makes the mains start off at a certain poundage, but once the crosses are added this increases by a generally accepted 10%. By adding "+2 on the cross", in theory at least the overall tension should even out to the higher figure. If you're comfortable with your stringer, you can just say what overall tension you want, and leave it at that. All of my rackets are now strung with VS850 @ 24 x 26, but I went with 23 x 25 for the MX80 because it's stiffer and has 80 strings.
i dont really understand about this "main" string. I assume, vertical stringing should be higher than horizontal stringing, right?
...query was just to answer a hypothetical and endearing wet noodle issue. Nothing asked, nothing answered.
Thank you very much! I think you are consistent with your stringing preference. Um, you might get tempted to up it a bit once you've tried isben's 29 lbs tensioned racket.
bbeshop has an English version of their shop called sohubuy, just to be confusing. http://www.sohubuy.com/slist.asp?factory=victor&sort=2
I've figured it out! What the Victors have in the looks department, is a slightly not-quite-right, slightly hokey look about them that belies a slight 'function over form' bias (whether real or imagined). They look slightly askew, which for us Westerners is a nice Asian aesthetic.....not as 'wrong' as a SOTX, but not as highly polished as a Yonex. Yonex' to my designer eye are too polished, too highly detailled, and often have too many ideas playing out on such a small surface area. When you combine the 'not quite there' look, and the 'werks' look of the carbon head, the MX80 pwns the VT80.
