Both country has old Badminton histories, unluckily they didn't re-new their Player Development System & Management.
However Malaysia still better now, They have Lee Chong Wei.

IMO, PBSI were getting too comfortable with their position at that time, & they forget about regeneration..Thinking that good player will emerge all of a sudden, & they are proven to be wrong..

    dont worry too much....
with the exitence of Sirkuit Nasional which was starting on 2009, we can see a lot of good talent show up. We have a lot of talents for MS, MD, XD and WD. not to mention that although not very good, but our GS talents (U-17 and U-15) are arguably better than current Pelasnas WS (in terms of talent).

it's now depend on how PBSI groom those good talents.
they need good coach to guide them.
Its good to see that for MS and WS junior (in Pelatnas), they are trained under Li Mao.
but i think, for MD, Ko Herry IP needs another partner to coach MD Junior. Sigit Pamungkas or Sigit Budiarto, maybe ?

I prefer Sigit Budiarto to coach our MD talents in Pelatnas, guiding them to make a good jump from Junior to Senior competition.

Markus Fernaldi Gideon/Agripinna Prima Rahmanto Putra continue their steady rise in the rankings as they are now WR 45 (2 spots above their seniors Rendy/Afiat), thanks to their first IC title in Iran last week! They have an excellent chance of reaching top 30 by end of the year!

yes it is promising but so far on world class level, only Rian/Angga have performed reasonably well, they have beaten Jung/Lee. However, after more than 1 year, even Rian/Angga have not able able to break into top 8 or consistenly making at least QF.

Something need to be done. Either change the pairing of the youngster, maybe starting in May or doing something with the coaching.

Why couldn't we adapt junior-senior system in our MD (or any other double departments)? It seems to me that many (if not all) INA MD pairings consist of 2 players with more-or-less similar age.
    KOR has Lee (23 y.o.) / Jung (29 y.o.)
    CHN has Chai (21 y.o.) / Guo (27 y.o.) and Hong (22 y.o.) / Shen (25 y.o.)
    DEN has Mads (24 y.o.) / Jonas (34 y.o.!)

and they have been performing reasonably well so far...
(The first example is different case. They are so d**n good! :D)

we have tried it on Alvent/Ahsan, right ?? when Chandra paired with Tony, Sigit was paired with the more senior Trikus, about 10 years ago i think. we did that also many times in XD department. in WD, we have Nitya (25 yo) paired with Anneke (21 yo).
the problem now, we dont have senior player for MD in Pelatnas. only Bona/Ahsan.
and after that, i think Afiat (23 yo) is the most senior. After Afiat, Ryan is the senior one (22 yo) born in 1990. the other pairs are still 21 yo or less.

I think Hendra should return to Pelatnas and paired with Ahsan. but it will be quite hard to push him returning to Pelatnas. or maybe, Rendy/Ahsan will be an awesome combination. but Hauge has said that there will be no split pair. dont know after olympics.

Rian/Angga actually quite good, but compare with the progress of second pair from China, korea and even malaysia still it is not good enough progress for Rian/Angga.
    I think Rian/Angga is already left behind Ko/Yoo, Chai/Guo, WeiHong/Yeshen....

And not to mention that there is already big gap between Rian/Angga with MD below of them like Rendy/alfiat, Gideon/Agri etc that we must watch out,,,

But i don't believe to scratch Rian/Angga is the solution, they are still young and have good prospect, they only need more exposure with lot of tournaments....

Participating in tourneys is one thing. Winning matches is another thing.

Both Rian/Angga and Rendy/Afiat have been given ample exposure to tourneys!

Let's take Angga Pratama/Rian Agung Saputro's case in 2011. They were sent to participate in 15 Open tourneys and the Summer Universiade (both Team & Indiv).

    The breakdowns are as follows:
SS & SSP events - 11 tourneys (just missing the HKG SS)! BUT....they lost either in qualifying or first-round in 7 of 11! In the other 4, they managed to progress to R16 of China SSP, QFs of Indonesia SSP & French SS, and Final of India SS.

GPG events - 3 tourneys, with first-round exits in Malaysia & Indonesia GPG and R16 exit in Macau GPG.

GP events - 1 tourney and ended up winning the Vietnam GP.

Summer Universiade - winning the Team Event Gold
and lost to Bodin Isara/Maneepong Jongjit in QF of Individual Event.

    Summary of the 15 losses:
    - 2 to INA pairs (Bona/Ahsan and Kido/Hendra)
    - 2 to CHN pairs (Chai/Guo and Shen/Hong)
    - 2 to KOR pairs (Jung/Lee and Cho/Kwon)
    - 2 to JPN pairs (Hashimoto/Hirata and Endo/Hayakawa)
    - 3 to MAS pairs (Chan/Lim, Goh/Lim, Abdul Khalid/Mawan)
    - 1 to THA pair (Isara/Jongjit)
    - 1 to DEN pair (Rasmussen/Conrad-Petersen)
    - 1 to ENG/INA pair (Blair/Limpele)
    - 1 to RUS pair (Ivanov/Sozonov)

So, they are still relatively inconsistent with unexpected losses to non top 20 pairs. They also won just 2 matches in the 4 tourneys they participated this year. 2 of them were first-round exits at Korea & AE SSP. The other two were R16 exits at Malaysia SS & Swiss GPG.

For Yohanes Rendy Sugiarto/Afiat Yuris Wirawan, they were sent to 12 Open tourneys and the Summer Universiade.

    Summary of tourneys in 2011:
SS & SSP events - 7 tourneys. They lost in either the qualifying or first-round in 5 of them. For the other 2, they managed to progress to R16 of Malaysia SS and QF of India SS.

GPG events - 4 tourneys. 1 first-round exit, 2 R16 exits and SF at Indonesia GPG (best-achievement last year).

GP event - 1 tourney, QF exit at Vietnam GP.

Summer Universiade - Gold Medal for Team Event and lost in SF to Fang/Lee in the Individual Event.

    Summary of the 13 losses:
    - 3 to INA pairs (Bona/Ahsan, Kido/Hendra, and Rian/Angga)
    - 3 to KOR pairs (Kim/Shin, Cho/Kwon, and Choi Kang)
    - 2 to CHN pairs (Chai/Guo and Shen/Hong)
    - 2 to JPN pairs (Endo/Hayakawa and Hashimoto/Hirata)
    - 1 to SIN pair (Chrisnanta/Triyachart)
    - 1 to TPE pair (Fang/Lee)
    - 1 to RUS pair (Durkin/Nikolaenko).

Even worse result than Rian/Angga and not even a Final appearance in any tourney. They also have yet to be sent to any Open tourney this year, with the first appearance expected to be in the Australia GPG.

Even if Agri/Markus lose today, they will climb up to the top 40 by next week, even higher than Rendy/Afiat. That will please Koh Herry I.P. as he will probably have them competing in more GPG and maybe SS levels.

The 12 tourneys that they participated in up to next week's Osaka IC
    IS level - Singapore (WINNER)
IC level - Indonesia (SF), Iran (WINNER), Vietnam (at least RUNNER-UP), and the forthcoming Osaka (seeded 2nd again and high hope to reach at least SF).
    GPG level - Thailand (R16), Chinese-Taipei (R16), Indonesia (QF), Macau (R32), Korea (R32), India (R16).
    SSP level - Indonesia (Qualifying)

Only 1 qualifying defeats (to Rian Agung Saputro/Angga Pratama) and 2 early defeats in R32 so far....to Chai Biao/Guo Zhendong (2-sets) and Liang Jui Wei/Liao Kuan Hao (3-sets).

The other defeats are to Bodin Isara/Maneepong Jongjit (2-sets) and to their seniors: Hendra A. Gunawan/Alvent Yulianto Chandra (2-sets), Bona Septano/Mohd Ahsan (2-sets), Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan (3-sets), and Rendra Wijaya/Rian Sukmawan (3-sets).

Ulin/Ricky will also climb up to the top 60 by next week in only 9 tourneys and a chance to even enter the top 50 after the Osaka IC (if they reach at least QF) .

So, these 2 pairs are hoped to join Rian/Angga in the top 30 in the near future. If Hendra/Ahsan do get paired after the Olympics, we will see:
First Team: Hendra/Ahsan, Rian/Angga, Markus/Agri - mainly SS & GPG levels, with occasional GP level for Markus/Agri

Second Team: Ulin/Ricky, Andrei/Christopher, Rendy/Afiat (still a question mark) - mainly GP & GPG levels, with occasional IC tourneys.

weird things happen... after vietnam IC, the md runner up agri/marcus up 6 places to rank 39 BWF and Quarterfinalist andrei/christopher up 4 places to rank 60 bwf. But the MD champion ullin/ricky down 1 place to rank 68 bwf, this is weird, their rank should rise a lot ... can anyone explain this?

Ulin/Ricky's ranking still does not reflect the victory at Vietnam. Ulin's name was written wrongly for the tourney and he was given a new BWF profile for the Vietnam IC.

how can you think about this ??
i think you have watched them all, right ??
    can you compare them ??

last time i watched Rendy/Afiat, they look quite lazy.... Afiat's power is not good, and actually Rendy was not playing better either. So, i can not blame Afiat more than Rendy on this partnership...

Marcus/Agri was quite aggressive, Marcus did smash again and again and chase shuttle everywhere. no comment for Agri, sooner or later, the world will know how good is his skill.
they are also quite funny, really nice to watch. that's why they are my favourite pair now. haha

I never watch Ricky/Ullin, only Ullin when he paired with Berry.... so i can not give a detail comparison on this 3 pairs... I think there is no good chemistry on Rendy/Afiat... looks like they play individually.
any toast after win or lose point looks fake in my eyes. hahaha :D

watched them in training, but it just another daily training at cipayung, so my opinion about Rendy/Afiat might be wrong
