I also heard that Lee Sheng Mu - who on the Victor website says he strings at 30lbs or something - actually only strings at 24lbs! This is coming from the guy who strung his racket. Does that make me a 'Pro'?
oh wow, I was ready to purchase MX80 and after reading all the posts here, I also want MX70, SW35, BS09 and BS12!! getting greedy am I? well 2 is the most I will buy at one time, so which one do you think I should get? I'm a beginner (but not a total noob! and I want to be better, very into badminton now ) I play doubles, I smash a lot but with my current racket (Apacs Tantrum 300 strung @24lbs) the smashes are very light. I tried my friend's BS10 and boom! All kind of responds will be sooo much appreciated.
Because they're all good, forgiving all-rounders that most beginner - intermediates will like out of the box. Can't really say that for the others.
oh true, but which one though BS09 or 12? 09 because LYD uses it and 12 because a lot of people here like it. color wise, I like 09 better.

Out of the rackets you mentioned, I'd get the SW35 and BS09 simply because both rackets plays and feels quite differently. I don't see the point in getting 2 BSs or 2 SWs if you're unsure which Victor racket will suit you best. Even if either rackets doesn't suit your style of play, you'll have a good idea what your next racket will be (BS10, BS11, SW37, etc). If you like both rackets, a good compromise between the two would be the MX series.
BS09 is sold out according to Eric :crying: ok so perhaps SW35 and BS12? or 11? also, what kind of strings and tension should I get? Eric offers me either VS850 800 650 or NBG98 95 BG66UM BG85 80.
If BS09 is out of stock then u might want to consider getting the BS12 instead. The reason is because BS09/BS12 is easier to wield but strong players might not prefer them as much as SW35. Owning both rackets will be a good starting point for you. I personally feel that it is harder to recommend strings compared to rackets. I personally prefer thicker strings such as VS850 and BG80 but most of my playing partners prefer the repulsion from thinner string such as BG66UM. I've recently tried NGB98 and find it to be a good all rounder. My advice is that you strung your SW35 1 or 2lbs lower than your BS since its has a stiffer shaft.
Unless you're a strong player and like big heavy stiff rackets, I wouldn't recommend a SW35. If you're at all unsure about that, then try the SW37 instead. I use the MX80 and even I can't get the full potential out of a SW35, so you've been warned. If uber-stiff advanced rackets are your thing, then take your pick of BS10, SW35, MX80. If easy playable all-rounders that aren't too stiff ar your thing, try BS09, BS11, SW37, MX70 If fast, head-light rackets are your thing, try BS12, maybe BS09 too. Strings are a pretty personal choice so it's hard to make a recommendation, but generally I'd say most 0.68mm strings give a good combo of feedback, repulsion, and longevity. I personally like VS850 / BG80 / ZM67. Good advice on stringing at lower tensions with stiffer rackets - works well for me. I run 24lbs on my MX80's and 26lbs on BS11's.
Avoid SW35, MX80, SW32 and BS10 - if you're a beginner/intermediate, these rackets will NOT help you as they're all pretty stiff and require good technique and/or good power to use successfully. And while the BS10 and SW32 are easier on the player than MX80 and SW35, they're still not suitable for someone trying to improve from an intermediate level. The BS12 is very close to the BS09 and a good racket for all players - if you improve much, you can always string it harder, and only when you scratch at pro level it might not be enough anymore. The SW37, I have no experience with but it's a slightly more demanding, head heavier racket. However, with some practice it should be perfectly usable for any advanced and probably most intermediate players. If you want to get something close to your friend's BS10, I'd recommend the BS11. It's close in BP and speed, and less stiff => easier to get power out of. Also, ask him about his string - the string accounts for 30-50% of a racket's performance imop.
first of all, thank you so much for all the responds. you guys are very friendly and helpful. generating from all the responds, I think I should try 2 different types of rackets so it comes to this : 1. MX80 2. BS09 hence I will know which type is my thing. however since BS09 is no longer available at Eric, what's the alternative? BS11 or BS12? BS10 is not suitable for a beginner like me is not an issue for me imho. I had no problem playing with my friend's in fact, I felt so much better using it.
BS09 and BS12 are very similar so if you want the closest thing to a BS09 go BS12. If you want something a bit stiffer and head heavier go BS11 imho.
I don't think head-light racket is for me. I can't generate enough power with it. so I will should start with MX80 and BS11. do you guys agree?
