Be interesting to see where WZM and Pengyu are by the end of the year. Lucky for the rest China will probably only have 2 MS at olympics
I m not the one saying the word next-super-king, which is too heavy for any young players to burden with the existence of LD & LCW. Yet I do reckon WZM could be the next top player, or the top player of the next generation after LD / LCW. It takes steps to arrive the crest. if he could be on top of the rest now (except LD / LCW), he could be the next top gun.
. And I wonder how LYB is going to promote WZM in future 'inter-nations' matches, like the Thomas and the Sudirman Cups. .
At first, I was pretty doubtful of this man because of his lack of netplay but today against Viktor Axelsen he showed that he can play well at the net, although it is definitely not a strong point of his game. Was quite impressed, he's still 21 after all. However, Lin Dan did not wait to beat the top guns of the game those days...
WZM looked pretty good against Axelsson but he was helped by the young Dane's curious need to finish off every rally like he was late for a train. Nevertheless, I think WZM would have won under other circumstances too. Other than a few lapses here and there, he looked ready and prepared.
Didn't look too tired to me. I think he employed the wrong tactics and seemed to be fooled by some of WZM's shots
Kinda mentally tired, because he couldn't motivate himself to succeed once again after his glorious victory over bao chunlai.
]Yes, I think that's one of weaknesses of younger players. They get too satisfied with a big scalp and lose focus for the next match. Not that WZM was cannon fodder but Axelsson played like there was a time limit and tried to blow WZM off the court.
^Well, he was kinda unable to cope with his unexpected wins. Pretty understandable in face of the fact that it was his first SS as a 17 year old!
WZM did not wow me when he 1st came onto the scene. He still does not wow me now, then again, neither does Chen Long. At the same age, LD,BCL,CJ + those from other countries -LCW,Taufik,PG were more impressive,at least more syok to watch, Chen Long, WZM's generation....hmmm. Denmark has found the next PG in the young Victor A, more than 15 years age gap. Thai young WS, Ratchanok is wow-ing me. Next LD to wow us, 10 years from now dunno if will have.
..and people are still looking & waiting for the next Susy Susanti, Rudy Hartono, Liem Swie King, Prakash Padukone, Rexy Mainaky, Eddy Choong, Morten Frost and on and on...and now Viktor Axelsen as the next PG??...ain't gonna happen, folks..Viktor will be his own and will make his own name.. Even Susy Susanti married Alan Budikusuma (both OG Gold medalists), people probably expected them to produce another badminton hero for INA..
that's not the point. Even with better tactics VA can not beat WZM at the moment. But what's really stunning to me is the speed of development. Look at the games VA played last year and look at his recent games. What a progress in footwork and net play! Not even LD showed this speed in progression...
Wang Zhengming I didn't find a thread for the youngster Wang Zhengming. What do you guys think about this 22-year old ? I've seen a couple of matches with him and I can say I really enjoy watching him! He's got a very penetrating smash and is very dangerous overhead, pretty solid defence aswell. He's someone to remember in the future, what do you think ?
Not in the league of the top players still at the age of 22. Chen Long was already giant killer by the age of 20 and Lin Dan winning All England title by the age of 20.
