Chris, sorry i think i didn;t make it clear on my previous post...... what i meant was, instead of having court 9 from 10pm, we move that to court 12 from 9pm. so basically we will still have 8.5 hours, not adding an extra hour. and we could cancel court 9 alltogether for tonight. so basically, it would be something like this: (1) Court No.10.....from 7:30pm (3.5 hours) (2) Court No.11.....from 8:00pm (3.0 hours) (3) Court No.12.....from 9:00pm (2.0 hours) - For Singles games from 10pm onwards (4) Court No.9.....cancelled Total court time would still be 8.5 Hours what this would do (like dante_cool advised previously) is reduce the waiting time for most players. Instead of having possibly 20 players waiting on 2 courts, from 9PM onwards we would have 3 courts and the waiting time would be significatly reduced. I agree with this. It doesn't take long to put your name on the booking list. It's even easier to put a reminder on your calendar to book. I think a more strict enforcement of the booking system could increase efficientcy and reduce loss. thoughts?
I have thought about it again . I have thought about it again. My thoughts are influenced by players who wish to play Singles Games (which are played during the last hour of our session); therefore we are having 4 courts available for the last hour with at least 1 or 2 courts for Singles Games. If Singles Games are not to be played, I can see that it's better to remove Court No.9 (from 10:00pm to 11:00pm) and to have Court No.12 (from 9:00pm to 11:00pm) put in place. .
What are the details of the shuttles? i'm guessing 4 tubes at $20 each which means 48 shuttles. An option may be to use something like RSL standard for about $15 per dozen if you buy in bulk. RSL Classic Tourney can be bought for ~$20 a tube if bought in a batch of 200 tubes (should be less than 1 years's supply assuming 4 tubes per session and you run two sessions per week) if we assume 1 game time = 15minutes therefore 4 games per hour, at 8.5 hours we have 34 games per night. What is the recommended shuttle useage? 1 shuttle per game? if so maybe we can reduce the number of tubes to 3 (36 shuttles). With 13 players maybe only 2 courts is required. I understand booking cut-off is an issue so maybe just enforce it. if money is really an issue then it's not viable to hire 4 courts at msac for the purpose of playing singles if there are only 13 players.

Chris, being one of the players who do enjoy playing singles towards the end of the night, i really appreciate that you take us into consideration when booking court. However, considering that we do have a lot of players who play mostly doubles (generally i struggle to find people to play singles with on wednesdays), i think it is fair that they are to be prioritised first. Besides, when i play singles i normally look for other empty courts not booked by CCC as i don't like increasing other people's waiting time. If we are using RSL Classic Tourney, we just need to make sure that the speed is correct. The ones used by Albert Park BC are way too fast (i think they are 79 instead of 77). Having said that i don;t think anyone minds what shuttles we use as long as they are reasonably good in quality i do agreee that it is not sustainable to hire 4 courts if we have 13 people, that's why i suggested to reduce it to 3 courts but with longer playing hours.
What is the recommended shuttle useage? 1 shuttle per game? . Our CCC Shuttlecocks Policy still stands; When we have around 14 players, we can use about 3 tubes. When 20 players, about 4 tubes. When 26 players, about 5 tubes. Regarding the quality of shuttlecocks to be used, it has been decided to use top-range ones. And their prices can vary from $20 to $25 per tube. .
. That was why I have suggested; Also Albert Park Badminton Club only allows 1 shuttlecock per game (timed for 20 minutes each). We at CCC are more lenient; * We allow each game to finish (as per BWF scoring), and * We allow shuttlecocks to be replaced (when they are damaged). .

I don't have a problem with finishing earlier if it means we can get more courts early on and be able to retail total court time. This will heavily depend on the current availability of courts though. The current system of having 1 court for the first half hour and then 2 courts from 8-9, then 3 from 9-10 means that if we get 25 people arriving at 7:30 and doubles games go for 15 minutes, the 25th person does not get a game until 8:30.

good suggetion on more courts early in the night Good suggestion there regarding more courts early in the night. yep obviously it all depends on availability. if we could have more courts between 7.30 - 10pm then possibily reduce the courts from 10pm-11pm (i still prefer to finish at 11) it would maximise efficiency and productivity for everyone. this would probably be the ideal outcome for most people. However, i'm sure Chris would've thought of this before and i think MSAC have available courts to accomodate this. With regards to 25th player not playing a game until 8.30, dante_cool brought up a good point to me a few weeks ago. We agree that warm up time seems a bit too long. We've seen people warming up for a full 15 minutes before starting their game. this really doesn;t help in reducing waiting time. especially early in the night where we only have 2 courts. we should not be warming up for more than a few minutes (maybe 3-5 mins max)

Can't agree more with the time taken to warm up. Suggestion would be no warm up time given after 9pm. However due to the weather , maybe we can take into consideration of a 1 minute warm up after 9 pm ( Assuming everyone already had 1 game from 7:30pm ). This should decrease the waiting time for all players significantly. Well said cerebellum ... you are the T K afterall .. LOL
