One reason why Lee Yong Dae and Jung Jae Sung are so difficult to beat is because Jung being short and stout is very solid in defence and is able to block and return many shots taller players cannot execute.
THis reminds me, anyone has photo of Ah How during WJC 2004? THat time TBH was a skinny scrawny kid & Ah How shorter version
Don't agree with that. LYD is considered to be much better at defending. That's why you see most of their opponents mostly aiming their smashes at JJS.
Actually BAM shud make HTH and TBH together again as they showed good results compared to KKK because when both KKK /TBH partner together, i found out that they tend to be over confident until lose out. This is through some observation after several matches where KKK/TBH always win the 1st set of doubles, then loss out on the 2nd match, then for sure loss out in the 3rd set.
Fast and furious would be the Taiwan MD pair Lee/Fang if you watch them beat Boe/Mogensen at the Sudirman cup 2011 few days ago. JJS/LYD probably lost the Hoon/Tan because they had to play Boe/Mogensen the day before.
Food in bam must good, see how Ah how changes his size Is the extra weight compensating his solid stand defending ? I wonder how would ah how perform if he is a few kilo lighter
I just watched the match (LYD/JJS vs ah how ah tan) and no doubt ah how has got very good defense and steadiness (strong mentally)... but his smashes are very weak, and not quick at front court... He is a good MD player, no doubt... let's hope BAM will give him a strong partner with powerful smashes... any suggestion?
No can do lah, jimbo asked for powerful smashes... TBH is only good for one powerful smash, then he's pooped...
I've already said earlier to mix up the pairs. coz once you get all england champ, people will hound you like a hawk. or they will be like a paparazi or stalker... haha.. ah how smashes are like water gun.. lol. thats why he need a power guy la..
Who is he? Who is his current partner now? left or right handed? If he has powerful smashes (like ah tan), Rexy should not waste his (ah how) talent... BOLEH?
To train a player with powerful smashes is easy but to use it effectively together with other skills is not
After Ah Tan, is 2nd most powerful smasher. Regular partner Teo KS lor, now temporary partner LKW. Should be right hander, since Teo is left hander. GWS does get nervous but better mental strength than Mak/TWK or LKW
I think Rexy will have plan for Ah How, but whoever it is, I hope he can continue to display good results for next few years before he quit the sport...
Tuesday June 21, 2011 The Star Pair hope good run continue at favourite hunting ground PETALING JAYA: Doubles men shuttlers Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif and Hoon Thien How have enjoyed good runs on Indonesian soil with different partners in the past. This time, the duo will compete as a pair for the first time in the Indonesia Open and they have vowed to keep the momentum going on their favourite hunting ground. The world No. 28th ranked Zakry-Thien How are using the event, which is the sixth leg of the Super Series Tour, to raise their self-confidence ahead of the World Championships, which will be held in London from Aug 8-14. Indonesia is one place where Zakry achieved several breakthroughs. In 2008, Zakry and his former partner Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari emerged as the Indonesia Open champion. In the same year, Zakry did well with Fairuzizuan to win one point for Malaysia in the quarter-final tie against China in the Thomas Cup Finals also in Jakarta. “I have never crashed out early in all the Open tournaments in Indonesia. There have been good results so far and hopefully, I can continue the good run with Thien How,” said Zakry. “This time, though, it will be tougher. The Open is a Premier Super Series event and all the best players are taking part. On top of that, the Malaysians have been slapped with a tough draw. All of us are in the same quarter and may have to take on each other,” said Zakry. Zakry-Thien How are in the same quarter with fourth seeds Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen and Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari-Ong Soon Hock. Except for Kien Keat-Boon Heong, all the others have a tricky first round match. Zakry-Thien How will face Indonesia’s Mohd Ahsan-Bona Septano; Teik Chai-Bin Hen have a challenging time against Naoki Kawamae-Shoji Sato; Fairuzizuan-Soon Hock meet sixth seeds Fang Chieh-min-Lee Sheng-mu of Taiwan. Thien How, whose best performance in the Indonesia Open was a semi-final finish with former partner Soon Hock in 2008, is looking forward for a timely boost ahead of the world meet. “All we want is an upset win. It will give us a good dosage of confidence before we head for the world meet. So far, we are happy with our preparation and none of us are down with injuries,” he added. # so funny to see Zakry comment....
i also lilke ah how, but too bad he is being pair up with zakry at the moment. zakry doesn't seems to offer anything special to this pairing. zakry makes too many unforce error and has a weak smash. i believe when they break up the TBH-HTH pair, HTH got the raw end of the deal. at least tbh get to pair kkk and went on to win some titles.
