Unfortunately we are hosting a Tournament on Sunday 25th August from 8.30am-5pm in the main Badminton hall.

CCC CATS will be moved to the back of the Table Tennis hall (Court No.16 & 20).

Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 18-Aug-2013 (A Short Report)

Here is a short report for our Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 18-Aug-2013.

We thank trainees for removing themselves from our 'Booking List' when unable to attend; therefore opening up vacancies for new trainees wishing to join us.

Reminder :
If you are unable to attend, kindly remove your name ASAP so that others can replace you, otherwise you will be fined. Why? Because there could other CCCers wishing to attend (checking to book in - up to the last hours), but finding themselves missing out after we have FULL HOUSE.

At this session, we conducted the lesson on 'Selections of shots'.

Some comments :
* The best 'Selection of shot' depends on how fast you are able to get into position to execute your stroke/shot.

For the Overhead Shots :
* The Overhead Clear is the easiest to do, since you hit the shuttlecock at between 12 and 11:30 o'clock.
* The Overhead Dropshot is the next easiest, since you hit the shuttlecock at about 11:00 o'clock.
* The Smash is the hardest to do, since you need to hit the shuttlecock at about 10:30 o'clock.

For the Underarm Shots :
* The Underarm Clear is the easiest to do, since you hit the shuttlecock at about the middle of net height.
* The Bounce is the next easiest, since you meet the shuttlecock at about 10 cm below net height.
* The Net Flick is the hardest to do, since you need some strength from your wrist, and also you need to be able to observe if your opponent is moving forward or not.

* Regarding the Overhead Clear, you need to know how far away you are from the net; Many trainees hit out because you are hitting from mid-court.

* Regarding the Smash, remember the harder you smash, the faster the shuttlecock will be returned. Therefore, smash hard only when you can return to 'BASE' quickly. Otherwise, smash with lesser power.
* etc, etc, ......

I feel that some trainees are still not understanding the lesson taught here. Please ask me questions next session (to answer any doubts that you have).

Comments on our 6 attending trainees:
* Timothy-T is doing well. He has done this lesson several times before (It's a good revision).
* WaiKin-Y is doing OK, but Footwork needs to be smoother and quicker.
* Tracy-T is doing well. Her wrist action has improved quite a lot.
* Mario-P is out of form (missing many weeks). More training is required.
* Amy-T has improved her 'Net-play' (with 'Mamima' more often on her side of the net).
* Maggie-D needs to clear flatter. Having a high trajectory will not get the shuttlecock reaching the 'Back Tram-Lines'.

Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 25-Aug-2013 (A Short Report)

Here is a short report for our Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 25-Aug-2013.

We thank trainees for removing themselves from our 'Booking List' when unable to attend; therefore opening up vacancies for new trainees wishing to join us.

We welcomed Wei-C attending her first CCC CATS. She has told me that she will coming again next session (Sunday 01-Sep-2013).

At this session, we conducted the lesson on 'Cross-Court Net-Play'.

Some comments :

Usage
* Use the 'Cross-Court Net-Play' when your opponent is stranded in one front corner.
* Don't use it when your opponent is at 'Middle-T'; you should be using the 'Bounce' or 'Spin/Tumble' instead. It is because of the time factor involved (as discussed).

Trajectory
* Like the 'Bounce', have the 'Maxima' on your side of the net.
* The higher the 'Maxima' the better the chance of landing the shuttlecock on the net tape.

Footwork
* Like any 'Front-Court Strokes', use the 'Longest-Reach' method.
* Count your 'Weight Transfers' (which is '1-2').

Stroke Production
* 'Pushing Action' with follow-through gives you more accuracy.
* Proper 'Grip Control' is required to 'Shine' your racket face in the required direction.
* 'Point of impact' is best taken higher. Lower 'Point of impact' gives your opponent more time.
* It depends on how fast you are able to get into position to execute your stroke/shot. When too slow, do the 'Lift' instead.

* etc, etc, ......

I feel that some trainees are still not understanding the lesson taught here. Please ask me questions next session (to answer any doubts that you have).

Comments on our 6 attending trainees:
* Timothy-T is doing OK. More training is required for softer 'Pushing Action'.
* WaiKin-Y is doing well. But higher 'Point of impact' is required.
* Tracy-T is doing OK. Her Footwork has improved quite a lot.
* Mario-P is getting back his form (after missing a few CATS).
* Chong-S is doing well, but her Footwork is sometimes too slow.
* Wei-C (being new) has lots to learn. Her problem is mainly because of bad 'Grip Control'.

At this session, we conducted the lesson on 'Footwork'.

Some comments :
* We worked on quicker 'Backwards movement to the Back Tram-Lines'.
* Moving too slowly often makes you unable to get into position to execute your stroke/shot.
* Counting your 'Weight Transfers' (which is '1-2-3-4') is most useful for 'During a Rally'.
* When 'Receiving Service', count '1-2-3'.
* Remember the different bases for 'Receiving Service' and for 'During a Rally'.
* Remember on which foot your weight should be on for 'Receiving Service' and for 'During a Rally'.
* etc, etc, ......

If trainees are still not understanding the lesson taught, please ask me questions next session (to give you info that you require).

Comments on our 6 attending trainees:
* Timothy-T is doing well. More training can bring smoother movement.
* WaiKin-Y is doing well too. But faster movement is required.
* Tracy-T is doing OK. Her Footwork has improved quite a lot.
* Mario-P is doing OK too. His Footwork has improved quite a lot too.
* Chong-S is having problem. She often forgets to count her 'Weight Transfers'.
* Wei-C (being new) has a lot to learn. Her problem is also because of not counting her 'Weight Transfers'.
