Tell us a bit about yourself, you play in Canada? Do you play tournaments or a league or anything?

From what I can see on video (which is not a lot I must say, it's basically just your hitting technique) Is that you keep your left arm very low, you put it out in front of you at weist height, but don't do anything with it.
And because of this, you don't really follow through with your footwork:
you 'rotate' 90 degress backwards, to face square on to the net, left foot first. Then while you hit you bring your right foot back to your left, not really following through.

Now if you were to put your arm out in front more, and rotate that 90 degrees after your hit, your right foot will be in front, and you'll be at the net faster. (plus, because of the rotation you should hit harder)

(now, because this is a warn-up video it's entirely possible you're already doing this in actual matches... If so, disregard my little tip ;))

    :p

:D I also have seen this low hitting technique (looks odd:p but nontheless I have seen a lot of people do it) - I think the follow through is probably just becuase it was a warm up?

Jerby can you also post a video - In my memory - I seem to rerember you of being of a very high standard - national / international?

Okay, here a short clip of me
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KS3NDZGaTmg
It's from november 2008 or so, feels like a long time ago already.

a little background, I'm Jerry, the guy in orange, now 20 years old.
    I'm 2,00m (6 foot 6 or 7) and I'm a not an international player.
(well, I have played 2 tournaments internationally, but if you ask me that doesn't make me an international player )
This is like 15-15 in the third set. I'm kinda tired, so just a quick blow-by-blow:
-I don't rush his serve at all, not aggressive enough if you ask me
-some bad footwork to my around the head, I should be a tad lighter on my feet:p
    - first push from the net should've been straight or a block
-then I step out with my non-racketfoot at a netshot :)? still puzzled why I did that, not usual for me at least...)
    -half-decent smash at a short lift ;)

it was a good rally - when you lifted it you timed your split perfectly :D.

You got back from your around the head quite quickly.

Yeah think that can be a disadvantage - being too tall means you have a bad centre of gravity - but does make footwork easier :D But thats for another thread :D.

    Anymore longer videos?

in the near future, perhaps, my coach just has to burn the DVD

Being tall has some advantages as well, but I have to work pretty hard to keep up the speed of my opponents.

    your turn krisss ;):p

Haha I am nothing of an elite standard :D.

My highest has been defeating the 33rd in england (this season) although I have only played one official tournament - and the rest fun/unoficial tournaments :D. Lol :D just an intermediate - I am hpefully going to post a video of some doubles games hopefully ( but I am a singles/mixed player - although I do play doubles) But this just does depend on my friends phone.

Hopefully he will be here today :D.

:D jerby - I will await your next video aswell :D (perhaps a game)

haha, well, 2 meters can be a burden ;) but then, in that vid, my opponent wasn't that much shorter :D
However, in Holland, most tournaments welcome people form abroad (just email them) but tourney-season is mainly fro February to June, before that there're league matches in the weekend. All tournaments apear on www.toernooi.nl (the dutch tournamentsoftware.com)

Now, less talking, more video's :p

@jerby - you've got some nice shots there, great angles and decent deception, - I particularly like the cross-court forehand return off the serve - your opponent was totally wrong footed! :)

You get some great angles with your overhead forehand but I think it could be improved if you made more use of your left arm :)

(btw I was watching the "jerry vs Evert" video)

Thanks Rich :) I've been watching a lot of Peter Gade's matches, great way to score an easy point :p

But, well, that video is already over a year old, I can see much more wrong with it
(I've been working hard to reach smashes in front of my body, instead of behind me. And moving forward more aggressively after a defence, or attacking shot; in this video I'm very passive after a smash, waiting his reply before I move instead of taking initiative)

it is just a warm up literally walking onto court as got into the place, i dont have a camera of my own but yeah within that there was no need to go forwards to the net so just stayed in the back warming up shots with nothing to powerful. i live in canada and played juniors in canada when i was a junior my highest achievement was being ranked 4th in the province in the junior circuts singles and 3rd for doubles junior circut mixed was further down dont remember that one. as i progressed onto seniors that ranking fell down, at highest junior nationals was a u23 doubles quarter finalist for my 1st year in it, internationally for trinidad and tobago things have been decent lost not the best to some players from around the world though but made it quarter finals in doubles in a tournament and 2nd round and all that in singles and all.

thats pretty cool, you are a tall guy, caught that lunge with your non racquet foot at the net other than that though it was a good rally.

I have a new video playing singles, but the rallies are way too short (less than 4 shot rallies). This was the last game my friend and I played after playing for a good 2 hours beforehand. So I will not post it this time, unless someone wants to see me being really tired and unable to move. Haha.
