When he was younger, he told his dad that he prefer to play badminton rather than studying. Good potential for this left hander. PETALING JAYA: Youngster Soong Joo Ven nailed his first international title when he emerged as the boys’ singles champion at the Dutch Junior Open in Haarlem yesterday. The Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) Form Five student’s made the breakthrough with a sensational 18-21, 21-18, 21-12 win over top seed Kalle Koljonen of Finland in the semi-finals yesterday. A few hours after that, Joo Ven hardly showed any signs of fatique as he defeated compatriot Soo Teck Zhi 21-16, 21-14 for the title. The success is timely as Malaysia are searching for new talent to succeed World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei when he retires one day. Last week, Joo Ven showed promise when he nailed his first Division Two title in the Selangor Open. Malaysia’s hopes of having representatives in two other finals – the girls’ singles and doubles – went bust when Lim Yin Fun lost 13-21, 19-21 to Bulgarian Stefani Stoeva and Chin Kah Mun-Yap Cheng Wen were beaten 12-21, 14-21 by Gabriela Stoeva-Stefani Stoeva.
I watched him play once last year, when he was still very young, 14 or 15, and small. He evetually lost to an older European player, but he showed he was very skillful although a lack of power at that age. He's a left-hander. I think I read once he likes Lin Dan.
Nop., He likes Lee Hyun Il. And btw , i saw him play once before.. If he continues his consistency, he will be the 'lin dan' of Malaysia and replacement of next 'LCW' for Malaysia
He has a Chinese coach sitting next to the camera
Now he is 17 and last year he was 14 or 15? 17 should be at least correct . Birthday May 19th, so turning 18 this year? Or is The Star incorrect and premature and he is actually from 1995?
hmm.... after watching his match, he is quite short, i think.... for me, becoming the next lin dan will be too high for him... he has to work a lot.... but he is skillfull for his age.... i think, he is like arif abdul latif.... this year will be a bit hard for him to get a medal in AJC/WJC. but i am sure he will become a medal contender in AJC/WJC next year. let see....
this boy reminded me how LCW when was a young boy playing with a guy taller than him by 3 heads. huge potential for 2nd/3rd men single for thomas cup next 4 years !
more to arif abdul latif for me... not lin dan... maybe, he can be better than arif... anyway, he is still young... he has the talent... just see his development in the coming years...
too premature.. yes...lets just say his talent give us more to hope for (along with ZZ) and leave it at that...
seems like soong joo ven us using an apacs racket right now... does anybody know which model he's using? Sent from my CPH1877 using Tapatalk
