Congratulations to Carolina Marin and Ko Sung Hyun/Shin Baek Cheol for becoming new World Champions! Truly deserved winners for both and the jinx continues for Li Xuerui and Lee Yong Dae. It's the best opportunity for the mighty LYD to win a World Championships title (in the absence of Hendra/Ahsan), with only a fellow compatriot (and ex-partner) to beat....only to fail yet again! Apart from the 2 All-England titles with Jung Jae Sung, LYD has not won any other major titles in MD. This fact will continue to haunt him with the Asian Games coming up just next month, in front of his home crowd. Compilation of LYD's losses in the SF/Finals of major individual-event championships: World Championships 2014, 2009, 2007 (Runner-Up) World Championships 2011 (Bronze) Beijing Olympics 2012 (Bronze) Asian Games 2010, 2006 (Bronze)
Oh Justin! What a game. I simply love Li Xuerui. But boy-o-boy, she hasn't got a handle over her nerves. I was fearing this very thing after Marin came back in the second game from Li Xuerui's comfortable lead. I just hope this doesn't mess with her head. She has in her to be the absolute best. Her consistency is just amazing. I hope she comes out stronger from this. In my humble opinion, Carolina Marin absolutely deserves this, simply because it is your job to remain focused and good. Let's see if she can keep up such results. She was better player today because LXR was just not focused. Doing way too many errors. Yet, I think the major difference was in the pressure that LXR had put on herself. Just see her consistency, this is the first loss to a non-CHN player. Let's see how future shapes.
It was a strange statistics which i noticed. but i never thought that the trend will continue till now. Whoever beats SN in Worlds or Olympics never become the champion in that tournament!!! That's quite baffling.
If I'm not wrong, he has been fired by BAM because MAS MS fail to get any medal in the Commonwealth games...
I believe at the end of G2, both Chen Jin and Zhong Bo, the two coaches, already knew LXR's problem, it's nothing to do with tactics or strategy, therefore nothing they said could help her. Maybe they already sensed it, like me, that LXR is breaking down - she played the right shots but wrong execution time after time. I'm afraid it's going to hurt her real bad, the last time she unexpectedly lost to IR also from self-destruction, she took it quite badly and couldn't get over it for several months; this time the damage is worse, it'd take far longer time for her to recover her self-confidence and inner belief.
I didn't see the match. But I think we must congratulate Marin who despite being down 10-5 at one stage in second game, having lost the first, still managed to win the game and the match against olympic champion and far more experienced world no. 1. We must give Marin the credit, not to her "good fortune".
All the higher seeded players have lost the gold till now. Will it continue? It will if CL continues to be in control.
