WHY WYH?Based on what?It should be LXR instead.LXR performs much much better than WYH in 2012.How does BWF do the assessment? What the criterias that are counted?Just look at the achievement (titles) they got in 2012, WYH: Malaysia Open, Uber Cup, OLY SILVER, LXR: German Open GPG, All England, BAC, India Open, Uber Cup, OLY GOLD, China Open, Hong Kong Open, Super series Finals.

True. 2012 is the year of LXR. 30 back-to-back wins plus winning the Olympic gold.

I guess this award is a consolation to WYH.

    It should be LXR instead.

LXR performs much much better than WYH in 2012.

Just look at the achievement (titles) they got in 2012,

    WYH:
    Malaysia Open SS
    Uber Cup
    OLY SILVER

    LXR:
    German Open GPG
    All England
    BAC
    India Open
    Uber Cup
    OLY GOLD
    China Open
    Hong Kong Open
    Super series Finals

    it is fixed already :)

    That's I am wondering why....

The award is titled Player of the Year, should not be a consolation for anyone

Based on achievements alone, LXR of course performed better than WYH in 2012.

But sport is not simply about results.

WYH, like LCW, always does one's best, and never gives up.

Exactly. LXR has not undergone the trial by fire that WYH has; from falling so low that it looked like she should retire at one point to becoming the hard-edged force that she is today. She had suffered a string of losses to LXR; that includes the Olympic final and the Hong Kong Open where she was so humiliated that she had to retire. Then, in their next meeting at the BAC, WYH succeeds in thrashing LXR convincingly, thereby proving that she always bounces back and improves to better her opponent.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of LXR so I'm very glad that WYH received this award instead.

I wonder how they selected Wang Yihan for this award... This is one of the classic example of wrong selection... She did not achieve anything in 2012 . Even Saina nehwal has won more titles compared to Yihan. Though i personally do not like Li Xuerui, i think she deserves the award and not Yihan.. Really, one sided approach by selection team..

It's all about what's happening in 2012, isn't it? not the whole career nor the whole progress. Just think about The Player of The Year in soccer/football.

In fact, I am a fan of both players. But it is just unfair.

    Or do I miss something?

Wang Yihan played well in Uber Cup 2012.
Cai/Fu also played well in Thomas Cup 2012.

I guess, they don't want to award Women doubles players. The ones deserved to win were punished.

There are too few categories. May I suggest:

    1) Best male player
    2) Best female player
    3) Best pair
    4) Most improved player
    5) Best comeback player
    6) Best young player (recognizes junior level players)
    7) Player that demonstrates the best sportsmanship
    8) Player who has contributed the most to badminton on and off the court
    9) All Start first team (based on MS, WS, MD, WD, XD)
    10) All Star second team (based on MS, WS, MD, WD, XD)

Not something lame like best dressed male and female ;)

For sure WYH played very well in Uber Cup 2012. So does CY/FHF in Thomas Cup.
But, if TUC is the main measurement or they give so weight in it, the award shouldn't be The Male/Female Player of The Year, it should be The Male/Female Player For His/Her Country, no?

Uber Cup is very important in badminton achievement (hey, LXR is in the team anyway though she played less than WYH), but do they forget/ignore other Big achievements LXR got? What about All England title, gold in Olympic, Super series finals title? And other Super series titles & GPG LXR achieved? Aren't they (should be) counted in to make the decision for awarding The Female Player of The Year (2012)?

Ok, I give up with BWF's unfair decision .
    Have a nice day.

I'm surprised that there is someone not giving up on BWF yet. :) Look like all these stupid decisions they made year after year, ... the 21 pt system, making female players wearing skirts, London Olympics, ....
