Thinking on the court and off
The title may be a little deceiving but I think you will agree once you've read the story.I had just finished playing badminton and had to go pick up my brother from another location across town in the middle of winter.Well I got him and on the way home driving my Dad's Volkswagon Bus suddenly the power dropped as I pushed the accelerater. The accelerater cable had snapped and here is me and my brother stuck on a lonely snow covered road miles from home at past midnight.I am thinking boy am I in **** now.My Dad was waiting for a ride as well.Suddenly it struck me that the cable is just another string being pulled and released. The Volkswagon buses have an interior engine hatch for the top of the engine.I got out my badminton string kit and tied one end of a long piece of string to to the accelerater and all the way to the front seat.Well it worked .Here I was clutching with one foot, steering and changing gears with one hand and pulling the string for the accelerater with the other hand .My brother was impressed and my Dad was amused but I just thanked God I kept my wits about me and had my badminton bag with me.True Story.

Wow that's a great story bighook!
Kudos for your Mcguyver ingenuity. It reminds me of the thread where everyone was showing off their badminton bag contents, and someone asked "What do you carry string with you?" Now we know :-) P.S. If you had to do this again, would you recommend BG65 or would you go with a less compliant string like BG85 for better throttle response? ![]() |

Bg65 is what I used back then and I think for durability and feel thru the steerhide glove I had it wrapped around at the time it was the best choice.

Just one strand. As it was a long way from the back to the front seat.

Hey man, that was totally awesome !!!
I have only one qeustion: What was the tension on your string, and was it good for power or control? Did you use a forehand grip or backhand? J.k. |

Wow what a story! That's some pretty awesome spontaneous thinking there. Hopefully my baddy stuff will come in handy for something other than baddy one of these days.

that's a great story!
i have used old badminton strings to patch and tie things up before, they are quite strong thus quite useful, as long as the tension don't go beyond 30+ lbs, it is ok. but your story just top it all! |
