Default Han Jian's book.

follow this link to the homepage of Han Jian's book. Han Jian is a Chinese player back in the early 80s. he has won numerous events including the WC.

Han Jian is famous for his court coverage and has earned the name "rubber gum". as he would run his opponent to the ground.

looks like a good book. anyone know where to buy this book outside of Malaysia?

the link even has his email address. i wonder if he actually answers the emails.

I tried that e-mail address, and it seems that the address is wrong or some what reason.

This book is actually sold from franchised BATA shoe outlets.

Bata is a Canadian footwear company.

Bata is actually one of the 2 earliest Shoe Company in Malaysia. I think it's a Malaysian company though, not Canadian.

Malaysian friends brought me a copy last year. This is a book worth having. The best part is Han's discussion on footwork, which he has a different approach for. "Losing your balance" refers to beginning your move by jumping away from the shuttle while leaning toward it (see the photos in the footwork chapter on website). He says you get quicker movement that way, while loading your muscles at the same time. Even if you don't do that part, the detailed diagrams are worth the price of the book.

yeah 'losing your balance' is a good term to discribe footwork.
how quick you move around the court doesn't depend how quick you can sprint because there is constant 'start and stop' motion, so IMO, the whole secret of footwork is mastering shifting your body weight. try this somewhat danger experience, ask a friend to give you a push behind your back when you not expecting, you will discover you are quite quick because you lose your balance, and your brain is programed to keep you in balance, so your legs will re-act without hesitation.
