I was shocked to read the news in xinhuanet this morning. After the Korean Cup fracas, it seemed that the world number one has not learned the lesson and is as volatile as ever and what is more, the incident was witnessed by the journalists , coaches and his teammates. His act inevitably tarnishes the image of Chinese badminton team which is alrealy marred by controversial match fixing. Lin Dan punched the men singles coach Ji Xinpeng, Sydney Olympic Gold Medallist after he and Ji fell out over the outcome of an internal Thomas Cup simulation match. The match simulated the format of Thomas Cup comprising Singles and Doubles matches. Lin Dan was grouped with Chen Yu wheareas Bao Chunlai was with Chen Jin in another team. Although Lin Dan defeated Chen Jin in the singles match , his team eventually lost to their opponent. Apparently, Lin Dan was not happy with the result of the match and questioned Ji about the arrangement of the order of the ties. Heated arguments ensued which saw Lin hitting Ji amidst the conflict. Ji did not retaliate though. For more details, you may refer to the report in the link, http://news.xinhuanet.com/sports/2008-04/10/content_7950671.htm
Any kind soul care to translate the article? At least it shows he has some "fight" in him! I would probably prefer my students to be hyped up and motivated to win rather than sanguine about it, But Punching seems going a bit far.
In Chinese culture, it's ridiculous to have a player showing any disrespect to an elder ppl, esp if that person is a coach of Team China!
And a highly decorated coach of the team. I understand, but he is young and bumptious, I look forward to seeing LYB's comments!
What kind of World's No. 1 badminton player is this? LYB for sure will backing his player especially LD.
if non China fans were to comment on this, it will go down the path of so many locked thread. i just want to comment on the act of punching. as with the act of throwing the racket, i think both are unexceptable. especially in sport. be it provoked or not. i could understand the need to win and the determination of a champion. that however is not an excuse.
This is very true. I am surprised this has received so little comments so far...please can everyone be platonic in your posts in order that it doesn't get locked.
Funny translation from google but readable start and end. Lin publicly display its power coach Ji Xinpeng was punched did not retaliate Tutu raid Fujian is the national badminton team training yesterday afternoon with a shocking events - men's singles world number one Lin Dan has the presence of reporters, coaches and teammates face, punched his coach, Sydney Olympic champion Ji Xinpeng. The day before yesterday, the Fujian Jinjiang training of the national badminton team for the Thomas Cup teams before the game. As this day is open to the media, from the central and local media reporters arrived at the scene were interviewed. That afternoon, the team divided into groups A and B for the three five-confrontation (including single, double), in which the men's singles Lin Dan, CHEN Yu was in a group, and Bao Chunlai, Chen in the other group . Although the first game of a 2-1 win Lin Chen, but in a group of their final lost another in a group. Lin will be the host for this group attributed the loss Ji Xinpeng in the men's singles division have problems. After the legitimate Ji Xinpeng with his Shangxianhu on things, Lindane Qichongchong exclaimed angrily: "Kyrgyzstan I.……"第一声, Ji Xinpeng found his tone something wrong, he did not pay attention to the soup Xianhu chatting light-heartedly. Dierqing, Ji Xinpeng only towards the direction of lindane, and questioned: "What is your…… called" Lindane to angrily denounce the men's singles from the running order, it is explained Zhong Ji Xinpeng (male Single coach) arrangements, he just observe it. Mouth after a while, Lin Ji Xinpeng has punched to the physical fight, when he re-Hui second straight, it was to dissuade the other members. And Ji Xinpeng in the sudden attack was, never retaliate. Journalists who witnessed the Super Dan "super display its power" scene, but the matter has not been disclosed. A web site reported the teams competition, quoted Li Yongbo still referred to a section of the Italian: "in the participation of outstanding athletes before competition, relatively speaking training ground is more fidgety…… I think this is the point As early as exposed as possible. " Subsequently, the parties remained silent, unwilling to be interviewed. "Banyak gaya"... He might be the no 1 badminton player in the world, but he's so lack in personality.Maybe he just really like to be spotted.. I'm glad that he doesn't have that much of a fans no more these days..
Hmm.. ..he might've had a bad day..But still quite surprised, too, at the news. Seems like LD snapped so easily. And it seems like LD is turning into Taufik's "bad boy persona".. ....after what had happened in the numerous threads in this yr's Korea Open MS Final incident, which eventually got locked, i think BCers have run out of energy in commenting/condemning LD's latest incident.
yup, poor show. i believe TH's problem was with PBSI, i don't think he personally had any problems with the coaches, certainly not to the extent that he would hit them. physically hitting your coach is just wrong, no matter which culture or country you're from.
just a warning. any inappropriate, provocative and/or insensible comments in this thread will result in an immediate ban. so please use your brain before you post.
if the incident is as plain and straightforward like the media has reported it, then i think that is unacceptable. Ji has not done anything to directly anger LD and LD in turn uses force to display his anger on Ji. LD's temper needs to be controlled and contained. it is utmost important for the training staff to maintain respect and discipline otherwise some player(s) may think that they are invincible in the team and causes unneccessary disruption to the order. i personally thinks that some disciplinary action is called for here.
