Default open gyms in east Bay Area, Calif?

looking for something in the south-east/easy Bay Area, preferably Fremont or thereabouts...

read the posts about SJ State and the high school in Pleasanton, but not sure if those are still around

the only ones I can find in the Fremont vicinity are at 1) the local community college, Ohlone College, but that appears to be only during the daytime during the summer, and 2) Citybeach, a sports recreational facility, but there is rarely any competition--mostly families with the kids, not to mention they're quite expensive ($7 for only 4hrs)

thanks!

just called up the Sillman center in Newark, but they don't sound like very fostering of badminton...the receptionist said hours each week are different and irregular

just for example
Sun May 19 8:30pm-10:30pm
Mon May 20 7pm-10pm

next weekend, unknown
number of courts open, unknown

guess i'll give it a try this weekend and call ahead every following weekend if it works out

monto.

an unforunately fact of life in the US is that badminton doesn't garner too much attention nor enthusiasm. and the fact that there are so many of us and the gyms are always crowded and we always dirty the court with dead feathers doens't make the people like us too much either.

as for Silliman, they always put badminton time as second priority, if there are ever any reservations for basketball, etc, they will move the badminton time around.

the court there is new and the surface is very nice. there are also a lot of space around the court and a sitting area outside. the lighting is only so so but you will get used to it after a while.

have fun.

Perhaps not so if there's enough $$ to be made for them. Just ask
Sunnyvale recreation center. They like badminton so much that they've
badminton every day, sometimes twice a day.

just found a great location for those in the Fremont/Milpitas area, called Citybeach (www.citybeach.com, located in south Fremont), a recreational facility (they offer volleyball, basketball, rock climbing, pool, and a restaurant too). 9 courts. Lighting is decent, courts pretty tightly fit

$60 membership (or $90 for 2 memberships):
M-F 11:00am-2:00pm $4
Sat 6:30pm-10:30pm $4
Sun 11:00am-10:00pm $4

for non-members, pay-per-play basis:
M-F 11:00am-2:00pm $7
Sat 6:30pm-10:30pm $7
Sun 11:00am-10:00pm $7

so basically, for $45 annual membership (find a partner ), you get a discount over non-members during the play hours

another option is the Irvington Community Center, 41885 Blacow Rd., central-south Fremont. $3 for Sat. from 7:00pm-9:00pm. They have 6 courts, but generally is pretty full, but that may change as Citybeach becomes more popular. Lighting is decent, courts pretty tightly fit
