Default South SF Bay Area venues

anyone know if San Jose State Univ, Cupertino High, Saratoga High, Monte Vista High, Independence High, Andrew Hill High, Willow Glen High or any other south bay high schools have any open gym for badminton during the summer (2002)?

gregr,

i heard that there is a brand new gym in saratoga that opens on saturday evenings. never been there myself though.

Gunn's schedule has been erratic. we've visited Pleasanton on the weeks when Gunn closes. a little bit far away, but the gym is very nice. give it a try.

kwun,

any more info on the Saratoga gym? location & time? is it Saratoga High?

haven't been to Pleasanton for a few years. i teach tennnis on the wknd & try to squeeze some badminton in between. Pleasanton is just a bit too far to allow for this.

gregr,

i only learned of it as 2nd hand info. a friend of mine told me about it. it is not SaratogaHS. i was told that it is brand new and not many people knows about it. if i remember correctly, it is some gym not owned by a school.

if i see him again, i will ask him for you.

are you playing?

i am considering it. we are out for a little trip the day before the tournament, so it will be a bit of a rush. but it'd be fun. playing in "home court", so to speak.

Default Gunn tournament

haven't played too many tournaments since the late 80s. for the most part, my competitive days are pretty much over... too many chronic injuries/problems. the worst of these are ankle/heel spurs and failing eyesight (due to a injury 5 yrs ago).

in addition to the chronic problems i've recently developed shin splints & had the base knuckle of the middle finger of my left (racket) hand dislocated while playing volleyball. movement is painful as well as hitting backhands.

probably go to watch since Gunn & Sunnyvale will both be unavailble for open play.

Default Saratoga HS

kwun-

do you know if the schedule is valid for all of summer? is it stable? it becomes somewhat erratic during the school year (when it becomes pre-empted periodically for various reasons). who is the contact for this drop-in? Saratoga Parks & Rec?

Default Saratoga HS

according to worldbadminton.com, drop-in badminton at Saratoga HS is run by the Los Gatos Recreation Department. call the LG Rec Dept for (weekly?) updates.

Default Los Gatos & Saratoga HS

Los Gatos-Saratoga Recreation Dept controls the drop-in badm at both Los Gatos HS on Mon nites & Saratoga HS on Wed nites. I gave them a call & got some info.

LG HS should resume on a Mon nite sometime in late Sept 2002. Don't know if they will ever resume the Thurs nite drop-in. Call 408-354-8700 for more info.

The official hrs for open gym badm at Saratoga HS is 7:30-9:30p (NOT 7-9p). However, they will not be open at all during Aug 2002 & will not re-open until late Septembre.
