Singles MP racquet ?

Clearly, the MP100 is mainly a singles racquet. What about the MP77, MP88 and MP99. Which one should I be looking at if I'm primarily interested in singles play? )Or: which one should I avoid?)

Hello GarlicJoe,

I tested the mp88, which is the only mp racket with the 'flex status' (according to the yonex chart). I am thinking of buying an mp88 for my singles but everyone says it is a typical racket for double players.

The 77 and 99 are stiff, 100 is extra stiff. If you need the yonexchart, take a look at:

just a question... why is the MP100 "Clearly" a singles racket? I play mostly doubles and i play alot with an MP100...

In fact i find it more a doubles racket than a singles racket, due to its balance.

Also, Candra Wijaya and Tony Gunawan won the Olympic Doubles Gold with MP100s, not that it matters.

Well, I think the main reason a lot of ppl don't use MP100 in double, is that they are afraid to break it due to clash of rackets.

I've heard ppl talking about MP88 is a good defensive double racket, but I never tried it by myself.

I byro, i agree with you. If given a mp100, i would use it to play MD over MS.

Based on general perception, single MP racquets would be the mp100, mp99, and mp77. Here's just a quick run-down of the various mp models I had the chance to try:

mp88 is flexible and light, you can't really get much power out of it but if you are the defensive type of player or control and speed is your game, you might find this racquet to your liking.

mp100 is stiff and packs a lot of power, I can achieve powerful smashes w/o using full swing power. However, I find the racquet really head-heavy and I feel "clumsy" at net, then again, that could just be my own inadequate net game

mp77 is like a mini-mp100 in a sense. If you got the money, go w/ mp100, if not, mp77 is good.

I think the two racquets are similar in feel except mp100 is just better and also more expensive.

Only took some practice hits w/ the mp99 and it has power of mp100 but w/ a little more flex and slightly less head-heavy which gives it more mobility. I'd say this is a better overall racquet. You have decent control plus power.
