Review:<br><br>
YY Boron 2 was a product in 1989. This model has been faded out nowadays. In Japan, similar models were Boron 3 and Boron 2. Their appearances were more or least the same, except the differences on their weight. Nevertheless, Boron 2 wasthe model for export to other countries and which was available in Hong Kong in the past.
<br>
<br>
Boron 2 is made of ACM boron and graphite. Its shaft is only 7mm (the same as that of Carbonex 21 ). Boron 2 is a quite stiff racket when is is brand new. It is in traditional box oval shape. It is in black with some white rims on both its frame and shaft. It has a remarkable "V" logal on the T joint. This is the only one racket in the Yonex series that without a YY logal. That's why its pattern is so remarkable ! In my opinion, its design, pattern and outlook is the best amongst all the Yonex badminton rackets uptill now.
<br>
<br>
It is a racket suitable for singles rather than doubles. Besides, it is a quite fragile racket, hence, the tension of string is recommended to be 20 to 21 pounds, its performance is perfect by using YY BG66 in 21 pounds when it is a new racket. The frame will be weakened after using for a few years, hence, 20 pounds tension is enough.
<br>
<br>
Its performance is extremely perfect, though it is a little bit fragile. The hand feeling is the best amongst all the Yonex rackets, may be due to its light weight, it is about 90+- grams. World champions like Zhao Jiang hua and Yang Yang had once used Boron 2 to conquer championships.
<br>
<br>
Boron 2 is now speculated to HK3,000.00 and something ! Some collectors even do not mind paying a high cost for it but no stock is available now. That's why price speculation on Boron 2 is quite severe in Hong Kong now.
<br>
<br>
Boron 2 was issued in 1989 but was not well-received in the market at that time, because of the high price HK560.00 and something. Most ordinary user would recommend Carbonex 20 instead of Boron 2 because ordinary user found Carboned 20 more easy to play than Boron 2 and Boron 2 was so fragile. This is only due to that fact that Boron 2 is not an ordinary badminton racket for normal user, it is a high grade badminton racket for top class players. Only those top class player can fully show out the advantages of Boron 2. As the feedback on Boron 2 from the ordinary users was not good, so Yonex decided to cease its production on Boron 2.
<br>
<br>
However, when world top players gave good commends on Boron 2 after using it, people began to search for Boron 2 but Boron 2 production had been ceased then. That's why Boron 2, if you have a new one, can be speculated to HK3,000 and something.
<br>
<br>
To conclude, Boron 2 is the best, and the greatest badminton racket in the world though it is quite fragile.

Dear Sam:
<br>
<br>
Is Boron 2 really worth HK$3,000 nowadays? I have bought one when it was first introduced in Hong Kong some ten years ago or so. Mine is a U G4 with BG66 at 20lbs.
<br>
<br>
This racket is light, well balanced, but you will feel the head is slightly weighted (but definitely not that heavy feel of the Ti-10). Couple with the ultra slim shaft, it can generate good smashing power. (If you compare it with Carbonex20, Carbonex20SP, Boron 2 is the slimmest, then the Carbonex20SP then the Carbonex20. Thus Carbonex20 is the most rigid feel among the three rackets. Also, if I can remember correctly, it was the next production batch of Carbonex20).
<br>
<br>
You need sometime to adjust to the use of this racket, but once you get use to it, you will love this racket. You will feel there is bursting power of your smashes. You can play it either with Single or Double: for Single, you have strong smashing power; for Double, you have more response time… cause the racket is just light enough for quick maneuvering.

Dear Mark Lam,
<br>
<br>
A brand new Boron 2 is really speculated up to HK$3,000 in Hong Kong nowadays. Some enthusiastic collectors are even willing to pay higher prices for Boron 2 but few, if any, Boron 2 is available in the Hong Kong market. As you also highly praised the perfect performance of Boron 2, so you can imagine why Boron 2 can be speculated up to HK$3,000.
<br>
<br>
Your Boron 2 is of UG4, U means 94-97gms whereas 2U means 91-93gms. Therefore, your Boron 2 is heavier than those of 2U. A heavier racket means more carbon layers are used which in turn makes the racket more durable. Hence, congratulation to you, Mark ! You get a heavier Boron 2.
<br>
<br>
According to my experience, a good racket must have a certain weight for power generation. Just like the saying of the previous Badminton King of Indonesia Lam Shui King " Only heavy racket can generate powerful smashes ! "
<br>
<br>
Mark, I totally agree to what you said, Boron 2 can really generate powerful smashes and one has to take some time to get used to it. It seems that Boron 2 has its own temper that you have to put some time to inculcate affection with it, before you can handle it properly as you like.
<br>
<br>
My Boron 2 is of 2U and in CN version. CN version Boron 2 is particularly sponsored for the China Badminton Team. Mark, is your Boron 2 still good after being used for 10 years ? Take care of it as Boron 2 is really a valuable badminton racket.

Dear Sam:
<br>
<br>
Thanks for your valuable information on Boron-2. Incidentally, I find this racquet is a good piece of art and have been treasured it much. Like wine and liquor, I only randomly take it out for play to enjoy its feel, control and the smashing sound. After all the ten years, I have been able to maintain this racquet at a 70-80% new condition.
<br>
<br>
From now on, I will even treat it more like an art rather a piece of playmate.
<br>
<br>
Thanks Sam.

Review:<br><br>
Dear Yudhi,
<br>
<br>
Whether the tension is too high or not depends on how new your Boron 2 is.
<br>
<br>
If your Boron 2 is a new one, 23lbs is all right, otherwise, on average 21lbs is recommended. In addition, the string tension is much related to one's skill. If one is an advanced player, he or she can play at a higher tension, and vice versa.
<br>
<br>
Boron 2 is very stiff when it is brand new. In spite of this, it is a fragile racket. Boron 2 is more suitable for singles rather than doubles.
<br>
<br>
Boron 2 is lighter in its head frame and is well balanced. It is one of the greatest badminton rackets invented by Yonex. However, it has been discontinued for a long time.
<br>
<br>
Some world-famous Chinese badminton player like the super-star Zhao Jian Hua and Sun Jun, are both using Boron 2 to conquer many world champions.
<br>
<br>
Yudhi, you should value your Boron 2 as it has been speculated up to US$577 mentioned in a discuss forum here.

Dear mym,
<br>
<br>
Actually, it is very difficult to find a photo of Boron 2 on the internet, as Boron 2 was a product by Yonex in 1988.
<br>
<br>
Winex, is a Taiwan brand name which always copies Yonex latest models but sells at nearly a half price of Yonex's. Winex does have her Boron 2. You can visit Winex web as www.winex.com.tw and search the icon "traditional series". Then, you will find there is a Boron 2 (Winex). The appearance of Winex Boron 2 and the genuine Yonex Boron 2 are exactly the same, except Yonex of much better quality.
<br>
<br>
I hope this information is helpful.

Review:<br><br>
The durability of Boron 2 is by luck. I have three Boron 2, the oldest one is Boron 2 IN. It has been using over 5 years and always strung at 25lbs, but everything is OK and still have very good performance. One is Boron 2 CN, some of my friends strung at 27lbs and still OK for first 3 years. I only strung at 25lbs before competition. It's condition almost new and I treat it as a collectable items rather than a racket. The unlucky one is another Boron 2 IN, it strung at 25lbs also, but broken in the racket bag without crashing.
<br>
<br>
Boron 2 is a excellent racket and hardly to find a replacement. It's special performance makes me hardly to adapt the new Ti series.

Forrest,
<br>
<br>
I totally agree with you. Boron 2 is indeed a legend of badminton racket. Mine is broken last month, it is a CN version 2UG4.
<br>
<br>
It is really difficult to find an replacement for Boron 2, the most closest one may be Cab 21.
<br>
<br>
Frankly speaking, Boron 2's performance is even much better than Ti-10, that's why Sun Jun and Zhao Jian Hua both used them to conquer many World Cup titles.
<br>
<br>
I wonder why Yonex discontinue it. Really hope Yonex one day will reproduce this stand-alone powerful weapon - Bornon 2.

Hi Boron-2 Fan,
<br>
<br>
The design of Cab 21 and Boron 2 is the same. Both are of 7mm thin shaft. However, the performance of both rackets are different. Cab 21 is stiffer and head heavier, whereas Boron 2 is well-balanced, lighter weighted but still can generate powerful smashes.
<br>
<br>
Cab 21 is made of high modulus graphite whereas Boron 2 of ACM Boron and graphite. In terms of durability, on average, Cab 21 is more durable than Boron 2.
<br>
<br>
Forrest, I suggest not stringing your Boron 2 at a too high tension, let say 22 to 23 lbs is suffice for serving powerful smashes and control. Too high tension will only break your Boron 2, trust me, Boron 2 is not that durable as your imagined.

Dear All Boron 2 fans,
<br>
<br>
Here is another piece of information for your reference.
<br>
<br>
When Boron 2 was first introduced in 1988-1989, there were another version of Boron 3 and Boron 7 available in Japan.
<br>
<br>
Boron 3 and Boron 7 were only available in the Japan domestic market at that time. Their appearance were exactly the same as Boron 2, except the words "3" and "7".
<br>
<br>
As I haven't the chance to see them, I can't tell the difference between them, may be in terms of weight, balance and prices.
<br>
<br>
Anyway, I just want to expose this information for those Boron 2 fans, including myself.
<br>
<br>
Really hoping Yonex will reproduce this stand-alone legend weapon - Boron 2.
