Susi Susanti opens reflexology clinic
Jakarta Post
JAKARTA: For 1992 Olympic badminton champion Susi Susanti, nirvana means her latest business with fellow former shuttler Elizabeth Latief in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. Both recently opened a reflexology and sports massage center in the area.
"It's our new business. We just opened it on May 5," Susi said recently. "However, many people ask us if we also provide 'extra services' here ... we strongly denounce such things," in an apparent reference to the reputation that many massage parlors cum brothels have.
Susi and Elizabeth even put a Christian cross on the wall in the entrance way.
"We intentionally put it there so people don't have to ask us that same question again," Elizabeth said.
Since her retirement from badminton in 1999, Susi has been busy taking care of her three children and helping husband Alan Budikusuma run their distribution business of their own racket brand Aztec. She also runs a baby shop at the ITC Cempaka Mas in Central Jakarta.
To attract customers, they have distributed leaflets to passersby, called on other former shuttlers and their friends to try the service at the new health spa. "We guarantee that the service here is good," Susi said. "This is our business so we can survive ... We've had to work hard because the government does not provide us (badminton players) jobs or pensions," she jokingly said, followed by a burst of laughter from Elizabeth. -- JP

I wish I were a millionaire. If I'm a millionaire I would hire Susi Susanti as a coach and pay her large some of money. She was one of the greatest badminton player ever and her talents, skills and knowledge should be passed onto the younger generation. Such a great badminton legend's skills and time are wasted in selling badminton products, baby shops and spa.![]()
Badminton is one of the best and greatest sports ever and Susi lived and breathe badminton and it should not go waste like this. Governments should do more for sports person and sports legend like her. It makes me really angry when governements don't do enough.![]()
Don’t you think the same guys?
When you compare the prize money between badminton and tennis it is hugely different. This trend has got to change. Here in UK unbelievable money is spent on sports like football but not even 1% of such money is spent on badminton. For example Chelsea Football club spent £100 million pounds in purchasing new footballers. With that sum of money badminton could rule the world.
I’m really very sad not much has been done for badminton. Being a badminton player and my love for badminton I'll do everything I can to promote this sport. As a senior systems developer I'm developing a blogging software for badminton community and hope all the greatest badminton players can one day blog there experience, skills, tips and tricks for the badminton community.
Long Live Badminton!! Long Live Badminton Legends!!
ps. Sorry if my mesage was over the limit. I'm too emotional about badminton and I love it too much![]()
I would imagine, as susi has kept starting new businesses and they are sucessful, then it is her choice to do such things. I think if she wanted to do something in badminton she would. Just because she was a legend, and a tremendous player, doesnt mean she must be a coach. Quite the opposite in fact, because she was so good, she may be a bad coach. If yang yang and zhao jian huas' talents werte transfered to coaching then they would be world class coaches. They arent, and it is by their choice.
But I agree badminton is a great sport!!
By the way what is a baby shop?? sounds illegal!![]()
I Agree with you james. I don't know why I didn't think about that. Maybe It must have been the beer I had earlierOriginally Posted by jamesd20

According to my dad, Yang Yang apparently has a badminton training camp set up in China during the beginning of August which I might be going to.Originally Posted by jamesd20

But the chances that yang yang will be coaching you from day to day are very slim. Zhao has a similar setup in the city I went to. I visited it, and the standard wasnt that high. I am sceptical about famous players who lend their name to these things without having much to do with it. It can bring their reputation down.Originally Posted by BoboTheBadder
I may be wrong on yang yang though. Let us know, but dont judge a place on name, but on reputation and quality.
didin't YangYang and Zhao went to Malaysia after retirement to coach the team there? so did Han Jian i think.
they did eventually ended up on the business side. which i guess is ok. a person have their own choice in their career and their future. being a coach is good, i can imagine someone who look for more financial rewarding endeavor though.
ok ok they were two very bad examples, but good examples as well. as they have not continued to do coaching at the highest level. This may be because they werent good coaches, or that they were frustrated that their students couldnt understand them, or they werent learning as quick as they thought they should. So they turned to business to satisfy there obvious hunger to be the best.
Many ex footballers in UK turn to be successful business people, as they are very competitive people, who are used to success, and know how to achieve and learn, as they learnt through their sporting education.
This is one of the reasons I think sport should be encouraged more, because it teaches you not only how to play, but how to learn, and suceed. These are valuable lessons that some so called "educated" people lack.
Sorry to deviate, and cover some points touched on before.
I think my dad is calling today to find out if Yang Yang actually coaches. If he is I'll probably want to go since I mean... hey! It's Yang Yang! I'd probably end up badgering him for autographs more than actually learning anything though.Originally Posted by jamesd20
