On Tuesday this week - BA learned that on 15 October Dennis Morgan, former
BA National Executive Director and Badminton Competition Manager for the
Sydney 2000 Olympic Games passed away. His funeral was held on Saturday 22
October 2005.



Robin Bryant, President wrote the following on his significant contribution
to our badminton community.



Dennis Morgan

Dennis Morgan worked for Badminton Australia from around 1990 until 2 years
before the Sydney Olympics where he took up the job of competition manager
for Badminton. Dennis arrived in badminton from hockey and proceeded to move
the sport from the kitchen table to a more professional operation. Dennis
spent a lot of time, developing relations with the Sports Commission,
building up the inventory of activities that a professional office required
and working closely with Board Members to ensure each of their portfolios
contributed to the growth of the sport. With the advent of the Olympic
Athlete Program Dennis put his organising skills to use by developing our
first full time national squad. That he did this with a budget that was
really meant to be a part time operation based on camps is a tribute to his
organising skills. His efforts saw the development of a group of players
who distinguished themselves at the Commonwealth Games in Victoria Canada
with a total of 5 medals (4 bronze medals and a gold in the ladies singles).
Dennis was totally committed to sport, he was an affable person with a very
strong network. His work at the Sydney Olympics saw a first class
presentation of badminton, well in keeping with the standards applied right
across the Games.

Obituary

Dennis Morgan OAM, Administrator

Dennis Morgan OAM, who died on October 15, will be remembered for his greatcontribution to Australian sport as a player and an administrator.

Morgan played professional Rugby League in Australia and the United Kingdom.
A Kyneton dairy farmer, Kyneton Councilor, President of the Kyneton
Basketball Association, basketball coach and life member Victoria Basketball
Referees Association, he was also Executive Director of Victorian Mens'
Hockey Association and oversaw development of the State Hockey Centre at
Royal Park.

He also organised the prestigious Mens' Hockey Championships Trophy in 1990.
Executive Director of Australian Badminton Association for more than ten
years in this role before the Sydney Olympics, where he took up the job of
Competition Manager for badminton, Morgan moved the sport of badminton from the kitchen table to a more professional operation.

He spent a lot of time developing relations with the Australian Sports
Commission, building up the inventory of activities that a professional
office required and working closely with board members to ensure each of
their portfolios contributed to the growth of the sport.

Morgan, who was awarded the OAM for services to sport, was totally committed to sport. He was an affable person with an extremely strong network. His work as Competition Manager Badminton at the Sydney Olympics saw a first class presentation of badminton.
