LD has a huge psychological edge against just about anyone. He believes, and for good reason, that he is the best. Add that to his skill and athleticism and you have a very dominant player, just like Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Federer (before his most recent loss to nadal) and many others. It is but natural for fans to crave for someone who could challeng LD since it makes the game more exciting. That's why LCW is quite popular. However, I think the current player who has the best chance of beating him is still TH, not because he believes that he's better than LD, but because it's personal. In othher words, he hates LD's guts.
I agree with smashmouth that only TH has the best chance against LD, psychologically. In opposition to other players, TH never fears LD !
That may be true before the Beijing Olympics. Since then Lin Dan is a different beast of a player-Taufik would have been humiliated by him. Watch Lin Dan play against all his opponents in the AE-he just rubbished them. You get a feeling this chap is unbeatable, even if he is behind. It is like a cat toying with a victim before she eats it.
Bao CL has been trying that for 10+ years, actually Bao did pretty good, he did upset Lin Dan to steal the the world youth championship although Bao had never been better than Lin dan. But all people think now Bao was better than Lin Dan when they were teenagers, because people just live in that one snapshot. People don't care Lin dan actually beat Bao CL all the other time when they were juniors. Taufik was another succesfful example, his performance was never comparable to Lin Dan. But he managed to steal the OG and WC. Then he became the player who can win whenever he wants to. Therefore for Lee CW, the best strategy is not to fight seriously with Lin Dan at each tournament, he should learn from Taufik, don't even want to win those matches. Just try to steal a title at OG or WC those smaller scaled tournameets, then make a snapshot, let the whole history frozen at that point, then he will become another player of winning as long as he wants.
Not to forget, the only capable player of beating Lin Dan is Lin Dan himself, he is that good, no question about it. Or perhaps a certain Mr. Chen owing to x-reasons-[namely patriotic reasons]
Man all these boleh fans defending LCW makes me sick....LCW will never be a player like Taufik and BCL was.....Lets just say LCW is only capable of becoming 2nd best...I'll swallow my hat personally if LCW can get a gold in Olympics, win a world title or perhaps getting AE...time is running out for the arrogant LCW....
i see similar mental quality between bcl and lcw. Maybe we should pass the runner-up specialist torch onto lcw now.

I don't think LCW is arrogant, in fact he seemed like a shy person with no self-confidence or too humble. On the other hand, Lin Dan is so extremely confident of his abilities, that he seemed arrogant.

which boleh fans are you reffering to saying that lin dan is not going to be match fit?? do you mind to show me the post? seems u like to criticize chong wei to earn 13 points in the 2nd set next time..etc, you sounds like u're so 'smart' in terms of badminton, why dont you go and challenge lin dan for a match and i would wanna know how much would u get, the score?
