A more reasonable calendar for the next 4 mths (at least until the World Championships) so that they can break into the top 10 by end of the year: 07-12 Apr Happy Suwon Badminton Asia Championships (Suwon) -- this is an important tourney for them and I do hope PBSI can send them (despite news that INA players will not be sent). QF placing will do them good here. 21-26 Apr Vietnam Int. Challenge -- winning Int Challenge tourneys will help to shore up their fragile confidence. But chances are, PBSI won't send them to lower level tourneys Sudirman Cup will be held in May. I think PBSI may not even field them as a back-up pair, given that they're now INA's no 3 MD pair (behind Kido/Hendra and Bona/Ahsan). We'll see. 16-21 Jun Djarum Indonesia SS -- home event, no harm participating 23-28 Jun Yonex-Sunrise Malaysia GP Gold -- a new event, good for INA shuttlers to gain some ranking pts 20-26 Jul SCG Thailand Open GP Gold -- also a good tourney to defend their QF points from last year. I believe with their rankings, Rian/Yoke will be eligible for a spot in the World Championships 2009 in Hyderabad. 10-16 Aug World Championships 2009
Well, it's listed as TBC in the BWF Calendar+the fact that it was cancelled last year. It will be good if the tourney is still on!
Excellent! This should be the perfect competition venue for the Rian-Yoke. As well as Bona-Ahsan, Edo-Lingga, Alvent-Hendra, Wifqi-Alfiat types... By the way, Rian-Yoke is now ranked #11 in the world, despite their 3 straight 1st round SS losses [HK, AE, SO]...
Ouch... C`mon Philippines! If you can`t organize a Gold GP event, then just arrange a Philippine Challenge! We (the neighbours) will go there too...
Rian-Yoke have found their winning ways again. They reached the finals of this week's 2009 Japan Open SS. They only lost to Kido-Hendra, the Olympic champs, 19-21, 22-24...
wah, I don't know why but this thread so quite lately... after so hot at 2007-2008. congrats Rian/Yoke. Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan got their revenge after their QF defeat last year.
http://www.badzine.net/news/rian-sukmawan-passes-away/37003/ A heart attack at age 30. That is indeed very sad.
Rian Sukmawan's sudden passing was also reported in the Chinese media http://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2016-02-29/doc-ifxpvysx1759220.shtml Obviously, he has fans in China. May he rest in peace. Life is Uncertain, Death is Certain.
Very sad indeed. May he rest in peace .Most probably he died from SADS. SADS or Sudden Adult Death Syndrome is a genetic heart condition that can cause sudden death in apparently healthy young people. It mostly occurs due to an inherited cardiac condition that is often not diagnosed until one person dies unexpectedly. It is known that in Britain 12 young people die every week from SADS – that’s 624 young people a year. The most critical age for a Sudden Adult Death Syndrome to occur is whilst being at university. The heart condition can be easily picked up by a simple screening test via an ECG. I don't know how many of you can still remember. Many years ago, before the emergence of FHF and CY, there was an up-and-coming Chinese MD pair comprising of a Huang Zhanchong and a Zheng Yiming who were capable of beating Park Joo Bong and Kim Moon Soo. In a match against an INA pair in Hong Kong Zheng Yiming suddenly collapsed on court with an apparent heart attack and was only saved by the tournament doctor in the nick of time. Zheng had to retire from badminton and that was the last we heard about that promising young pair from China. Zheng is the brother- in-law of Yang Yang and later went on to marry Wang Chen whom he also coached for some time. Hope he is still in the best of health.
