It was definitely cold there, a lot of the volunteers had gloves and jerseys under their jackets. I myself was wearing a fleece vest under a woolen jacket...

Last year I was playing at Waikato and eek!oh! is right: it's warmer standing outside. Personally I think the coldest I've done is Christchurch... I don't think you can find any badminton hall in New Zealand with any insulation in it, which is probably why they hire out an event hall for the NZ Open rather than getting a badminton hall proper :p

Ahh its at the North Shore Events Centre. Isn't that also quite cold?

I don't remember Christchurch being too bad. I thought maybe the lower ceilings helped.

So did Michelle & Rachel look outclassed? :(

I can't remember whether it was the same inside the hall (perhaps not), but Invercargill must have been the coldest place I've played... I remember being so cold it hurt (not in the main stadium)!

I usually wear two shirts (or more) when playing in Christchurch..

It blows my mind to imagine how players who seem totally unstoppable when they play down here in the South Island can get wiped off the court by these INA players who are even a few years younger than them!?

It makes me feel so small :).

And then the same INA players or players with skill levels like them can be wiped off by under-19 Chinese players who have never been heard outside their province... :p ...and by that 14 year old WS from Thailand, Inthanon, the 2009 Vietnam Challenge champion...

Thanks all for sharing the pics..

..ahh, taken with your 30D? Great effort. A small suggestion for the future, which you've done, is to take more of the players' face than their back.

*Krisna, can you identify the Djarum players & personnel in the pics?thanks.:)

the one besides Febby is Yayu Rahayu, partnering with Didit in XD. Ana is the one standing at the back, wearing cap. The two besides Gifar are Koh Lukas and Mas Agung, coach for doubles and singles, respectively..

the rest unknown are locals, ae86 is the one on the far left..

Hi Ctjad, yep with 30D. Thanks for suggestion, will try to take more on the face.
By the way, I notice when trying to take photo from the opposite court (to take face) the net almost always cover the face :( If I go low, the fence blocking the view and if I go high place the net blocking the face :(
I don't have any pass so I only can take photo from the place where I'm sitting.

..thanks for id-ing them; you are really familiar with those youngsters..
..yes, i totally understand & can imagine your situation. Unfortunately, that's the way it goes. If you notice or see other baddy photos, most of the pics taken are away from the net/nettings; either above or @ the side the net or even below the nettings. There are instances where pics would be taken at net level or through the nettings. In those cases, it'll depend on how fast of a lens one has to focus through those nettings; the DOF (Depth of Field) plays a factor as well. Those situations, along with taking pics of players on the fly/moving, are the challenging ones. But they can be done and if achieved, they could turn into some great pics (i notice the 1st one and the one with Rachel Hindley, they're not too bad; the 2nd one, with the shuttle/net in focus, i guess that was taken at random??).

btw, this gal above reminds me a bit of Hendra Setiawan (Markis' partner). Any relation to Hendra??..

Thanks Ctjcad for the tips. I try to prefocus at certain place on the court and waiting for the player to get there but from time to time alot of action happened somewhere else so I try to quickly re-focus and as you guess, it focuses on the net >.<

Edit: I don't think she is related to Hendra.. her name Jenna Gozali.

So, the one besides Berry is Ana Rovita (I thought a guy ) and the one in the outmost right besides Febby is Yayu Rahayu.

ae86trueno, I like the picture of Rachel. Shows a lot of intensity.

Theonly decent shots I've ever got at badminton are prizegiving & on the sideline ones. Its a hard sport to photograph unless you have a really good camera.

Thanks eek!oh!. You mean Rachel's expression show alot of intensity?

yep agree, especially fast indoor sport like badminton. Fast lens is very important IMHO I can't really think any other way around for fast lens.
