Dear all, I have a problem with my backhand lob power, it's curve, high but not enough power, and always ending by an opponent smash, is there any solution for it? I feel that I've hit with all of my power, but still cannot accross into the back line of the court...:crying::crying::crying:...My friend tells me to take an overhead , and it seems work for now, but I still curious with my backhand lob.......Is there any practicing to improve my backhand lob?

First, start off with your grip. Hold it as displayed on this page:

    http://www.badmintonbible.com/articles/grips-guide/grips/bevel-grip.php

Second, positioning. Make sure that your body is turned away from the net, so your back faces the net. This will help generate power.

For the stroke, it should be a combination of your arm coming out from your body, as well as the rotation of your forearm to give a sort of "snap" onto the bird.

backhand lob is really a big concern for the average club player. it's not really recommended to master this shot but of course you'll be having a big advantage if you have one in your arsenal. you need to get a qualified trainor to monitor the way you execute it. but as much as possible, try to do an overhead (forehand shot).

you mean a round the head fore hand shot ?

Yeah I agree I have been working instead of being lazy and Hitting a backhand shot I know will just be net killed

However since I have came back from holiday I have improved my wrist strengh and have a coulpe of decent backhand shots from the back of the court like cross court backhand drop but back hand defence is excellent

It's not always possible to replace backhand lob with an overhead shot. Suppose your partner serves low, and the receiver pushes shuttle past her to your BH below net height. The best thing you can do is BH drive if your footwork is great, but usually you have to do BH lob or drop.

If you take the bird while it's in front of you, it's more like a lift from midcourt, so it doesn't require the kind of strength required to do a clear. However, if the bird passes you, then you need to to a clear or drive, or drop.

BTW, when you guys talk about backhand lob, you mean backhand clear right?

in my understanding, the backhand "lob" is a backhand clear as oppose to a backhand lift. that's why i suggest to do (in most cases) an overhead forehand shot instead.

my overhead forhand is limited to droping only, i can't generate enough power to drive/clear it back.

One of the primary problem that I have is because I have a weak back hand, I try to move to where the bird is at to hit a forehand/over the head forehand. This end up sucking once they figure out I can't drive it back.

But it suck even more because when the bird is right on top or slightly to my left, there's no chance of hitting a strong back hand because there's no way to generate power. So the best way IMO is to learn to hit a back hand, save you some footwork and you can be deceptive (drop or clear on either side). easier said than done though.

In your case, I would suggest trying to work on that around-the head forehand first. You'll find that it'll improve all aspects of your overhands, even ones take on your forehand side!

Though I agree, backhand strokes save lots of energy because the footwork is less tiring, and the deception is there because the racquet preparation is hidden behind your body, so your opponent can't see it.

practice with dumbell to strengthen the wrist, and when you are about to hit a backhand lob, make sure ur right foot goes after the shuttle before the impact.....

Well, backhand lob means BH lift from below net height for me, as lob is a tennis term that applies to badminton. I don't mean BH clear.
