Hi Daniel Font, Welsh U17 player, has been shortlisted for the British Airways Great Briton's competition, where he's trying to win flights for the Welsh Junior team to the 2011 world juniors. (the dates and location didn't need to be accurate before you say)

Now he needs people to vote for him and that's were you come in [IMG]

see http://www.tinyurl.com/danfont I know it's a bit chesey but that's the sort of thing they wanted and it did get him short listed

    Thanks

I wasn't there this year although our club had a couple of players in the Junior Satellite on the adjacent courts and they reckoned Dan n Co should probably have won more.

Why be like that Daniel is a qualitiy, very hard working player from a very small country with a very small budget.

In true Daniel style he has asked for the team to go rather than just himself.

If he doesn't win the competition they almost certainly won't go.
I mean even if he does, parents will personnally have to provide the money for accomdation, food etc. On top of a normal season that would be a struggle but will start saving now.

He's the only badminton player competing in this round so why not.

Dan went over the to US 2 years ago to compete and won. All the US people we met there were very friendly. If you don't like this post you don't have to read it.

If anyone things that he's being a killjoy, go and vote :)

I've posted the link to my facebook as well.

Hhwoot, you should be ashamed of yourself. Where else would someone in the badminton community expect to gain support for a worthy cause?

Badmintoncentral.com would be the first place in my view.

First, I don't believe getting flight tickets to go to a badminton tournament is a more worthy cause (nor an indication of a great Briton) than for charity (the cause for three other shortlist candidates).

Second, we shouldn't contribute even more to the bias of an online poll. The bias being that the only respondents are those who are made aware of such a poll, and stuff the ballots for reasons other than the intended purpose.

Third, a very minor complaint. This is a poll for "British Talent", yet due to this thread, people from Singapore, New Zealand, and USA have voted.

I suspect that the reason that roller derby is ahead in the polls is due to similar actions that Baddersmum has done here (i.e. selectively informing only those who are more likely to vote for the desired candidate).

If you believe that badminton for one person is more worthy than charity for many. Or if only informing an election to a particular (social) political party is fair. Then you would be consistent in your own logic to call me "shameful". But I hope others can see that I am being fair.

Agreed this is a UK competition to send a British person somewhere.

However if this has been a request from a badders chum from another country I'd of voted for them.

We have in the past & have plans for the future, hosted people from other countries so they could afford to come & play here.

As a badminton community I think we need to stick together.

The sport is very popular but still not funded well.

Personally I'd love to see more variety of countries at the worlds.

The term "great" comes from the country title Great Britain, doesn't mean you had to have cured cancer

Well Dan came close just a couple of votes of the winner (which was the pink roller balding ladies). As he was so close BA have shortlisted him again.

At the risk of upsetting HHWoot  can I ask if you get the chance to vote again or to vote this time if you never quite got round to it.

Would apprecaite it, badders chums need to stick together :D

    Thanks
